Every outfit is not a style statement
Some outfits are not even particularly stylish. And some outfits might simply be a bit blah… This is one of those outfits.
Because that’s what real life is like: sometimes you just can’t be bothered to make an effort, or maybe it’s one of those days when you hate all your clothes. Or perhaps it’s a fat day (come on, we all pay lip service to body positivity these days, but you know as well as I that we all still have those days…).
Whatever the reason, you end up wearing something that is boring or uninspiring, or both. A bit blah, in other words…
At first I didn’t feel like posting this outfit at all (you know, because it’s a bit blah and all…), and I thought it was just a failed attempt at recreating another look I really liked, but with a warmer coat. But that’s OK.
I mean, It was -again- one of those days (= a fat day, I-hate-all-my-clothes-and-I-have-nothing-to-wear day, take your pick). In fact, I have those days quite often…
But most of the time I don’t have time to wallow in it. Like most people, I have other things to do, or I’m just too tired to care.
Anyway… I may find the outfit boring, but my hair looks damn good in these photos. Even if I say so myself. And if you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know how rare that is. Usually it’s my hair that I hate… I have a life-long love-hate relationship (OK, more hate than love) with my hair, but I’m finally learning to get along with my curls (I’m still a long way from liking them), and bad hair days are getting a bit less frequent.
Outfit details (all old):

How would you spruce up an outfit that’s a bit blah?

Listen Tiina, your hair looks great and you are carrying a killer handbag—-that is generally enough to carry us through the blah days….I was thinking of you and our shared dislike of “layering” as I was watching a video of a woman I follow on Youtube who happens to be French and thin. I try not to hold her thinness against her and I admire her sense of style and the practical. sensible advice she shares. HOWEVER, a recent video had her showing the advantages and versatility of layering several thin layers of clothing in the winter and I proceeded to watch with awe and revulsion as she applied the following….we see her in a pair of pants and a lightweight cashmere long sleeved sweater. She shares with us that she has a cami under the cashmere sweater…then she adds a long sleeved buttoned shirt over that, so she’s up to 3 layers now (God help me!) She then adds a tweed blazer to the mix, layer #4….she finishes up with her wool trench coat style winter coat….layer #5. And, when she is finished, she STILL LOOKS THIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, her arms move!!!!! Well, I just about died! I wonder why some of us can do that (five layers effortlessly) and others of us chafe at the thought of two???????? Anyway, just had to share! I always enjoy your posts—keep ’em coming!

Wow! How can anyone wear so many layers?!? It sounds a bit uncomfortable, if you ask me. And isn’t she going to be hot, with a cami under a cashmere sweater? And a blazer??? Where is she going that she needs so many layers? Seriously, I only ever wear a cashmere sweater over my underwear, and put on a (thick) winter coat when I go out, and that’s quite enough, even when it’s well below zero and snowing…
woww, I’m also amazed by this, even if I like layering. But can’t understand how can anybody wear a cashmere sweater under tweed and wool and feel comfortable. Perhaps everything she wears is really oversized, but anyway it looks too much for me!
I’ve worn a blazer under a wool coat and it worked for me, because it was a fitted blazer and a very oversized coat. However, I didn’t look thinner ;DDDD

Yes! I would find that extremely uncomfortable, as if my clothes were trying to strangle me.
Tina, I think you’ve underestimated this outfit. The bright pink scarf and the blush purse are both lovely and pick up those luscious colors from your top. (I am a fan of black and pink together – and envious, because although I like pink, it doesn’t look good on me.) Your lipstick is a perfect shade for this outfit as well. Oh, and I love your curls!

Thank you, Michelle. I think there’s a shade of pink for everyone. Maybe it’s the cold shades of pink that don’t suit you, but a warmer shade (salmon pink, or a bit more peachy shade) might do the trick.
I hope you are not fishing for compliments because you look great 🙂

Oh no, not fishing for compliments. I’m a Finn, we’re very bad with compliments (both giving and receiving, can’t handle them at all). But thanks. The photos do look a lot better than I expected. I guess I just wasn’t happy with the outfit on the day and found it so boring.
It is funny how we always like others people’s hair! I have always admired yours even when you think it is not looking its best. Straight hair here! I think we all have those days, had one of them earlier this week where I posted a pic on my feed and I was blah about it! Not every outfit has to be a killer outfit. Love the pop of color with your scarf!

I know what you mean: so many times I’ve hoped to have a straight, well-behaved hair… But probably that doesn’t exist. At least that’s what I tell myself…
I beat that feeling after I gave myself a permission not to care. I agree with Mirelle not every outfit needs to be the most fashionable killer outfit. That idea is something internet does for you. Since I let go, I’ve worn the same jacket, same skirt and same cardigan again and again. I know they look good on me, they fit and I feel warm enough on them (we do have very cold office). As well as your outfit here looks good and you seem to be comfortable in it. -q

Having a ‘uniform’ (= something nice enough to wear to work, again and again) saves so much time and energy, doesn’t it?
Firstly, I have to agree that everybody has those ‘fat days’ and it’s totally ok having them. Nobody can be positive all the time (this would be ridiculous). However you wear a fab color combo, your accessories rock (your bag is so cool!) and your clothes look pretty comfortable and elegant, so I love your outfit and also love your smile and your attitude particularly in the pic posing next to the bannister.
I like your hair and I’m glad that you’re learning to manage it and make it look better, that’s good news!. I’m happy to wear hats and berets these days as my hair is looking particularly miserable.

Thanks! Yes, it’s been a long road learning to accept my hair, or learning not to hate it. I’m still a long way from liking it, but I’m happy with the progress.
Hats and berets always look so nice (on other people, not on me), and probably just what you need this time of the year to keep warm.
Isnt it funny how you see “blah” and I hink Id be rather pleased with that – ok, it is not screaming look at me!!!! but it is actually very put together in a lovely understated way that says more about personal confidence (even if you dont think so ) ), and I WISH my hair would behave too – any one with curly hair having a GOOD curly hair day feels like a win for all of us women who live underneath the curls
Author
Thanks! Understated is good, I prefer that to over-the-top.
I now what you mean about a good curly hair day: it’s so rare, almost never happens. And if/when it does, there’s usually nobody around to see it. But whenever you’re going out and want to look your best, you bet the hair throws one hell of a tantrum and refuses to cooperate.
We all have those days when things don’t seem right. Actually there is nothing wrong at all with this outfit , the colours are perfect and it looks casual and well put together. As someone with dead straight hair i always admire full, curly hair, although I know it can be a challenge sometime.

Thanks, Jill. I guess I’m just getting a bit bored with these clothes as I’ve been wearing them quite often recently.
I don’t think it is a blah outfit at all! The colors are gorgeous and like you said, your hair looks fab! Nothing blah about that. I hear you though, there are definitely days when it does all just feel kind of blah. And fat days…those are too many to count! In any event, you are sharing the reality of what life is and that itself is perfection! Thanks for linking up.

Thanks! Yes, that’s real life, fat days and all…
Doesn’t look blah to me! i like all the pink with the scarf and stripes and bag! I definitely have those days too though – I think we all do, we are only human!
Hope that you had a wonderful weekend 🙂 We decorated our house for Christmas, which always makes me happy!

Thanks, Mica! Yes, I think we all have days when nothing looks right.
Decorating for Christmas sounds lovely. I haven’t had time to do that yet, but I’m looking forward to it, too.
