Pure Fantasy
So, is this how I spend my weekends at home: dressed in a vintage silk kimono, listening to relaxing music?
Well, no. It may be what I’d like my weekends to look like, but I have to admit it’s all carefully staged, pure fantasy.
As you know, when it comes to style and clothes, I’m practical to the point of being boring. For me, it’s all about functionality: I like clothes that are versatile and fit for purpose, without any bells and whistles. I never play dress up (did more than enough of that as a little girl), and I definitely never wear second hand clothing (sure, I may like browsing unique and beautiful second hand clothes in shops for inspiration, but I want my clothes pristine and unused, thank you very much).
However, I do like luxury goods… And I love silk kimonos. So much that I when I saw this 1920’s kimono in a vintage shop in London (years ago), I bought it on a whim. I hardly ever wear it (maybe I should), but it’s one of my favourite pieces. The kind of thing I could imagine wearing on a lazy Sunday afternoon as I wander around my spacious, perfectly coordinated and unbelievably tidy home…
Hey, this is a fantasy outfit, for my fantasy life (and fantasy home), work with me here!
Anyway… I wanted to see if we could have a photo shoot indoors now that daylight hours are in short supply. So, why not try to recreate my fantasy life for photos, even if it’s just for a brief moment?
Besides, I wanted to show you this beautiful Murano glass necklace sent to me by a Scottish company called Eternal Collection.
In my opinion, this pretty necklace called for something with a bit of an Art Deco vibe.
I love Art Deco. And I love the ornate yet simple clothes from the 1920’s, and the glamorous vibe of old photos from the early 20th century. And as this kimono is the only real 1920’s piece in my wardrobe, I just had to see what it would look like with the necklace…
So, there you have it: pure fantasy, staged in my living room…
Outfit details:
necklace: c/o Eternal Collection / kimono: vintage
Disclaimer: I was gifted the necklace by Eternal Collection. All words are my own.

Love this fun post! And your vintage kimono is awesome. You look lovely! The necklace is perfect with it. I hope you get to have that fantasy weekend some day.

Thanks, Michelle! Oh yes, I could use a fantasy weekend now. Or any weekend for that matter (and it’s only Monday…).
You should definitely wear that kimono, it is beautiful.
In my dream world I’d wear some luxurious linen or silk morning gown while having my perfectly instagrammable breakfast. And afterwards I’d carelessly grab some favourite clothes from my colour co-ordinated capsule wardrobe. The truth is I’m too practical to have clothes to be worn only for breakfast. It means I’ll never get to buy that morning gown and will never reach that part of the dreamworld. So as you have your kimono already, wear it girl. q

Dreams, such lovely dreams… I know, I’m too practical, too. But you’re right: I should wear this kimono more often. I’m just a bit too careful with it because it’s quite old…
What a gorgeous kimono! I think I’d be wearing it in the mornings while drinking coffee (just because I could) and maybe even throwing it on over a black mock neck top and black pants and coordinating flats (or black….black is good) and wearing it out to parties or dinners. And that necklace is beautiful – I love it! It does have an art deco look. I had a look at their site and there are some wonderful pieces on there!

Thanks, Ruth. Yes, this kimono would be the perfect ‘having-coffee-in-the-morning outfit’, very Downton Abbey. I should try it, at least every once in a while.
It is a beautiful kimono! Maybe you can take a few hours and live the fantasy one weekend!

Tiina, you know I have quite the obsession with kimonos and have been wanting a vintage one for some time. But I can never decide on just one and so I have purchased none! This red silk kimono is utterly stunning and that necklace is equally beautiful. I love this post and your wonderful fantasy! We all need a good fantasy to keep us going every now and then, donβt we? Thanks! I have a weakness for kimonos, too. But as I have very little storage space, I have to think carefully about what to buy. I tell myself that something is only special if it’s the only one…
Ok. Tiina you need more of this rich red in your closet! It is such a fabulous color on you with your hair and complexion! Love the red lipstick too! I always gravitate toward this red hue over the orangey red. Beautiful kimono wow. I think we all dream and have a fantasy life from time to time.. . and I love the 20s too.. especially music.

Thanks, Jessica! You know, people always tell me red is ‘my colour’. I guess I should believe that…
Nothing wrong with dreaming and that beautiful vintage kimono is the perfect garment . The Murano glass pendant does have an Art Deco vibe and works beautifully.

Thanks, Jill. Yes, it the necklace looks very Art Deco, doesn’t it?

Lovely – both the kimono and the pendant are gorgeous. A little fantasy living in the safety of our warm, cosy living rooms isn’t a bad thing and sometimes it takes us off in new unexpected directions

Thanks, Juliet. I’m definitely fantasising about a cosy, calm living room, but I think I still have some sorting out to do…

What a gorgeous kimono! The necklace works so well with it π I’m all about kimonos – but I don’t have any silky ones like this to wear around the house, they are ones I wear outside π
Hope that you had a wonderful weekend π Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp π

Thanks, Mica! Well, I have to be honest, I don’t really wear this kimono very often. I mostly have clothes I wear outside, too.
Stop dreaming! LIVE for the moment sometimes! Trust me, life is short! Love your kimono and necklace!
