I’ve been trying to go shopping lately…
I say ‘trying‘ because a) I hate shopping and b) I never find what I’m looking for. And yes, like any good fashionista planning to spend her hard-earned cash on a whole new autumn wardrobe I have a list of things I need want. The problem is that what I need want does not seem to exist…
Anyway, here I am, proudly wearing the grand total of my autumn shopping haul: a striped long-sleeved top, a cashmere scarf, and a jacket. And no, I did not buy all of this at one go. That would be way too easy. This, my dear friend, is the result of weeks of trawling through the autumn collections in various shops.
Yes, seriously.
I know what you’re thinking: I must be terrible at shopping. And you would be right. But you can’t blame me for lack of trying.
And, even if I say so myself, I don’t think I lack talent, either. I’m pretty good at spotting the one very special, elusive item that makes an outfit. Provided that the item exists, that is.
But even I can’t find what doesn’t exist.
I blame fashion designers. And store buyers. Whoever the powers that be are. You know, the people who are responsible for all the polyester crap that passes for women’s fashion in shops. Or the warm, soft cashmere in various shades of dog poo… Which is a crime, if you ask me: cashmere should only be available in beautiful, soft colours.
I guess you’ve figured out by now that I’m not happy with the new trends. Or the materials and colours available in shops. I suppose I could tell you about the long hours I’ve spent in various dressing rooms trying to squeeze my somewhat sizeable behind into trendy trousers. And the less trendy ones, too, also without much success. But that would be too depressing.
Instead, I’m going to style the hell out of this great jacket and wear it to bits. Or at least till it gets too cold, which will probably happen sooner.
Outfit details:
jacket: Makia / top: Esprit / trousers: Marks and Spencer (old) /
bag: Coach (old) / scarf. A + more / shoes: Ecco (old)
Have you bought anything new for autumn?

Love your new jacket I have a green jacket it gets lots of wear. As we say in Ireland I wish you health to wear it.

Thanks, Flora. This jacket is the same colour as a slightly shorter and thicker jacket (of similar style) I got last year. I seem to have favourite colours when it comes to jackets and coats…
I love that striped shirt (sweater?)! I saw one similar to it today and paused to feel it up and decided not today (since it’s sweltering here it was hard to get too enthusiastic about a sweater). You did a fab job on pulling the colors in with your umbrella, scarf and bag. The gray and burgundy look awesome together. And I’ve been looking at that anorak-style jacket at Target every time I go into the store…. Will I be buying some new pieces for fall? Oh yah!

Thanks, Ruth.
It’s nor a sweater, just a long-sleeved t-shirt. Thankfully it’s still too warm for sweaters. I’m hoping to postpone the sweater weather, too, for as long as possible…
Shopping can really be frustrating when you have particular items in mind. Your coat and striped top are good finds, just your style . It is Spring here and I will admit to a couple of purchases . Hope you find what you are searching for.

Thanks, Jill. You must be looking forward to summer. I certainly miss summer already…
I practically never end up buying what I went shopping for unless I have seen something I wanted on someone that was similar in size as me so I knew exactly what to get!

It’s hopeless looking for something, in my opinion. I usually find something I like only when I’m not looking for anything in particular (just ‘browsing’, or killing time in a department store), and just happen to see something nice. Sometimes I see something in the shop window, get in, try it on , and buy it. And I’ve never regretted those purchases. Too bad it doesn’t happen more often…
I totally hear you on the shopping dilemmas but my you look CUTE! So happy you linked this up with the Style Six!

Thanks, Andrea!
Well, Friend, you may not be able to find the exact pieces you’re looking for, but you HAVE chosen colors and shades that are New York Fashion Weeks’ top picks in their fall palette! I love your color scheme and style and YES! Where the BITS out of that jacket! Thanks for linking up with the Style Six!

Thanks, Laura. I had no idea, of the fashion week, I mean. But, as both the jacket and the top are new, I guess that explains it. These colours seem to be everywhere now.
I am with you on no polyester!! I love the fall colors and am looking for some basics, one of them being cashmere sweaters, light ones for this climate. Love your striped sweater and burgundy is your shade! looks great.
thanks for linking!

Yes, polyester is the worst. And it’s everywhere! But cashmere, I’m with you on that. I haven’t started looking for new cashmere sweaters yet, it would be almost like inviting winter to come early. I guess the first really cold day will change my mind.
Love your new purchases. I’ve been looking around for some new Fall clothing but so far I have only bought a utility type jacket in navy. I also bought a pair of jeans which I needed. I guess I’m like you – have a picture in my head of what I would like to buy but I get to the stores and can’t find it! That jacket you bought is great. I love the style and the color. At least you found a few items you love. Keep looking! I’m sure you will find more items you just have to have. Good luck! Arlene from NJ

Oh dear, I could use a new pair of jeans, too, but even the idea of having to try on dozens of jeans makes me horrified. Maybe one day. Or perhaps I really don’t need new jeans. Or trousers of any sort…
I’d been wanting to get an olive green utility jacket (for what reason, I wish I knew: olive green is one of the worst colours for me…) for a while when I found this one. This shade of green is so much kinder to my face.
I don’t necessary hate shopping, but I hate the feeling when I need/want something and can’t find it. Because everything is made of polyester. Or they have the cat vomit print. Or both. And trousers are the worst to find. I’ve bought perfectly fitting pair from japanese brand online without fitting, but can’t find larger enough trousers to fit me from my hometown in Scandinavia (which based on the pics is whereabouts you live too). I really don’t get it.
I like your outfit a lot. It is harmonious yet colourful. And that jacket is perfect. Wear the most of it, before it’s too cold. I’ve already given up the hope to find one similar. -q

I know exactly what you mean… Oh, the miserable hours I’ve spent in various fitting rooms, curisng designers and shop buyers!
I think I need to taking some shopping tips from you, Tiina! Because I am way too easy of a sell. Which is why I have been primarily staying away from any store that has women’s clothing or accessories. Because I buy it all, fill up my already too full closet, and am left with a bunch of junk and nothing to wear. So you see, particular though you may be, you at least have beautiful quality pieces that will last forever. I am loving your new jacket, cashmere scarf, an stripey shirt. The colors are gorgeous on you. And I also love that your umbrella matches in that beautiful burgundy shade. As always, you look great and gave me a great good chuckle as well! And I agree, cashmere should not come in any shade of poo.

Thanks! Yes, you’re right, I should look at this from that point of view: whatever I end up buying will be with me for a very long time, so it’s OK if it takes me longer to find it, too. Still, it is sometimes very frustrating when I would like to get something new and find nothing I like…
You have a fantastic umbrella collection. The perfect umbrella for each look. I would love to see them all.
Author
Thanks, Nicole! Yes, I have quite a collection of umbrellas. How that managed to escape my KonMari culling frenzy, I don’t know…
Your new jacket and the striped t-shirt are both lovely and make a fab color combo!, and I do love your accessorizing!, you rock it!. You look gorgeous in those burgundy shades, love that you have an umbrella in this perfect shade so it creates a perfect frame!
Once more, I totally agree with you that shopping is frustrating, it looks like the few items wich fits me are particularly ugly. I dislike the colors, the polyester, the quality. I’m having better luck when buying secondhand, even if it’s time consuming!

Thank you! It’s easier to find nice accessories than clothes, don’t you think? Which may explain my bag and shoe collection…
I love the autumn colours in this outfit! I find autumn shopping tricky – there’s only s many winter knits I need here in Brisbane and so things have to be really special for me to want to add them to my wardrobe. Just means it’s better for my wallet though, haha!
Hope that you had a great weekend. Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp 🙂 I just posted this week’s linkup, I’d love you to join again! 🙂 I’ve got a scarf giveaway on my blog right now too!

Thanks, Mica! Trust me, I find autumn (and winter) shopping tricky, too. And given that winter lasts 4-5 months here, that is a real problem.
Burgundy and dark green is a lovely colour combination! “Various shade of dog poo”…that made me laugh! I totally agree, cashmere should only be available in beautiful hues. I have bought some preloved clothes for Autumn, but I have no interest in cheap, crappy fashion. Thanks for linking up!

Thanks, Emma. Burgundy and green is my new favourite colour combo; it’s dark but not too dark, which makes it a good substitute for black or grey.
I don’t like shopping. I just wear the clothes I have in different ways. Good to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t enjoy shopping. You’re right about cashmere. It should be available in beautiful colours and shades.
You look lovely. I really like the colours in this outfit. Beautiful striped sweater and scarf.

Thanks.
Yes, you’re certainly not the only one who doesn’t enjoy shopping. It can be such a depressing experience. And exhausting, too.
It’s very flustrating to not find what you want or you do and it doesn’t fit. I now shop with larger women”s catalogs and find much more that I love. I have just ordered a side tie top in ivory, a cardigan. tank and maxi skirt in jersey in the color navy, two maxi blue jean skirts and navy leather gloves. It is very, very hard to find navy clothing here where I live. Black is popular here. So, I’m very happy to find these items this year.

Oh yes, shopping is so frustrating… For me, it’s not so much the size but the style that is the issue. I usually have a very definite idea of what I’m looking for, and shops seems to have everything but what I want.
It’s funny how colours vary in different countries, isn’t it? Navy (and black) is the one colour I can always find in Finland, whatever the season…
