I have been posting a bit less often lately. That’s because I’ve been quite busy with all sorts of trivial issues that have nothing to do with the blog (well, work mostly…). As I’m a freelancer, I have always either way too much work or not nearly enough, and this is naturally reflected on my other activities (or lack of), too.
Anyway…
It seems that summer is finally here. Well, almost. It’s getting warmer. A lot warmer than it was last weekend, when these pictures were taken. But I’m going to post them anyway. Mainly because I haven’t had a chance to have anything more summery photographed yet…
And me? Well, I’m in the middle of a minor existential crisis. No, nothing serious. I’m just horrified how much crap stuff I’ve accumulated.
I’m a minimalist at heart, and to see my closets bursting with stuff makes me stressed and anxious. OK, to be honest, a lot of things make me stressed: stark raving mad politicians and their idiot voters, micro plastic polluting the oceans, house prices, Brextremists, racism, sexism, ageism, all the other dangerous and/or crazy -isms making rounds these days… Not the mention the small personal worries that I would never admit to, at least not publicly, probably not even privately…
My point is, I don’t need half of this stuff, so why is it clogging my flat?
And clothes… There are clothes everywhere! And most of them I don’t even wear.
At the same time I’m just dying to go shopping for something new. Something different, unexpected, a bit wild. Or just the perfect striped t-shirt.
Whatever. I’m tired of all the old rags in my wardrobe, and I want something that better reflects my mood.
But I’m feeling terribly guilty because I have so many nice clothes, and I can’t just replace everything on a whim. It’s so wasteful. Waste of money, not to mention what this sort of wastefulness does to the planet…
What I’m saying is that I want to be a more responsible consumer. You know: buy less but buy better. And don’t just toss half of your wardrobe every time you feel like having something new. Yes, rewear the hell out of the old rags until you really can’t stand them anymore…
So, in that spirit: this is a very old dress (and featured on the blog a few times), my new(ish) trench from last autumn, one of my (relatively new, as in bought less than a year ago) favourite bags, and a brand new pair of sunglasses. Hey, I’m trying, but I’m not perfect…
Outfit details:
trench coat: Zara (old) / wrap dress: Boden (old) /
bag: Coach / shoes: Clarks (old) / sunglasses: Prada
How long do you keep clothes in your wardrobe before you allow yourself to ‘get tired of’ them?

I am in complete agreement with you regarding, well, pretty much everything in this post, but specifically about buying less but buying better. I have come to HATE shopping, was never a HUGE fan but now that I am sixty I am embracing the concept of buying less but buying better!!! Now, to put my plan into action! (UGH!)I love this outfit, by the way! The colors look wonderful on you.
I hear you… Shopping can be so depressing when you find nothing you like and/or can fit into (that’s always my main issue with shopping).
And there is nothing wrong with the outfit. The dress is fantastic! I love wrap dresses!
I used to wear a lot of wrap dresses. I guess I’m just a bit bored with them at the moment. But I won’t get rid off the ones I have. I know there will be a day when I want to wear them again.
I love your dress. I struggle to throw anything out and I love buying clothes. I really need a plan other than a wardrobe extension! xx
It’s scary how many clothes we all have, isn’t it? I always think I’m a rather demanding shopper: I only buy what I wear and ignore (most of the time, anyway) the latest fads. And yet my wardrobe is bursting! How is that possible? The clothes must somehow multiply on their own, that’s the only explanation…
A great example of shopping your closet and wearing everything you've got. i often ask myself as I browse through my closet "Is this going to make me feel great?" If no, I can let it go. I do love this wrap dress! xo-Pattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com
Thst seems like good policy, I should try that, too.
Lovely wrap dress, so stunning colors and print!I'm a huge fan of shopping my closet and every time I 'found' something in my wardrobe I say to myself 'this is better than new!'. Totally agree on 'buy less but buy better'!besos
And when you do buy something new, make sure it goes with what you already have, that’s my motto.
totally agree!
I'm a total shopaholic, dear Tiina…and not ashamed to admit it!! Clothes cycle in and out of my wardrobe very regularly – at least every season – but I DO have some pieces that I've kept for years and years. Isn't it interesting how we tire of certain things very quickly while others have real staying power?? I haven't yet been able to figure out that particular fashion formula!! You look fab in your "old plus new(ish)" combo – I LOVE the vibrant colours of your pretty wrap dress! – and your sunglasses are da bomb!! (Sunglasses just happen to be my most recent purchase, too!!) XOXOwww.StyleIsMyPudding.com
What do you do with the clothes you don’t wear anymore? I find it very stressful and time-consuming trying to get rid of old clothes (not to mention all the other stuff that keeps accumulating).
I recently downsized my home and with that change came the realization that I have too much stuff. I am still in the process of decluttering. I prefer to have less stuff but to be able to see it all instead of items crammed into every nook and cranny!
