A little bit of Grunge, anyone?
This is one of those ‘daily afternoon walk’ outfits: not particularly planned, not trying to impress anyone, and put together around a windproof jacket and solid walking shoes.
But now, looking at the photos, I’m tempted to label this outfit Grunge 2.0. Because that’s what it reminds me of: the early 90s’, and Grunge.
Actually, I was never into Grunge, whether we’re taking about the music or the style. Which might be odd, given that I’m practically the poster child of Generation X. Seriously, take any GenX clichés (a latchkey kid with divorced parents who prefers pragmatism over idealism, turns their rootlessness into cynicism, and is fluent in sarcasm etc), that’s me, to a T.
However, my style has always been a bit more, shall we say, aspirational (for lack of a better word). I deplore fast fashion, like luxurious materials such as silk and cashmere, collect designer sunglasses and love well-made (and expensive) handbags.
How did this happen???
I could blame Covid-19, of course, or plead temporary insanity, or something to that effect. I wouldn’t be the first person who feels the past year has completely messed up their style, their plans, their life, and the whole world.
However, it is possible that this slouchy, grungy persona was always lurking somewhere in the dark corners of my mind. And perhaps it has just been biding its time, until it felt it was safe to emerge…

Lovely casual outfit, your windproof jacket looks really cool and comfy, and you’ve accessorized it nicely with this colourful scarf. It doesn’t look really grunge in my opinión, but I’m not a huge fan of grunge anyway. I disliked the unauthenticity of posh teens dressed in (expensive) ragged clothes (still dislike this attitude, I’m so old fashioned!)
Nowadays many people are dressing in a more relaxed style. Nothing to blame about it. All we need more comfort these days, no fuss (as there are too many inconveniences to deal with).
I think your walking outfit looks fab.

Thanks!
Yes, the whole distressed jeans look is a bit bizarre, if you think about it: why pay a huge amount of money for something that looks worn out? I’ve done it myself, too, but I still think it makes no sense.
You look ready for a walk! I like your addition of the scarf! I always wore hand me downs growing up, that were out of style so I think that it is one of reason I enjoy getting dressed nowadays.

Thanks! Yes, ready for a walk, just in the neighbourhood, though.
Since the ‘60’s when I left home and threw away my girdle (no kidding) I’ve always dressed in charity or jumble sale clothes but where I live now, unlike the UK, such places are rare. I dress fairly plainly now but try to have a quirky accessory and I’m especially fond of jackets of which I have several. Your outfit is fit for purpose so it’s a success.

Well, less is more, and simplicity is beautiful. Especially when it comes to style. I’ve always hated complicated cuts and clothes that have too many bells and whistles (or any, to be honest). The form should follow the function, not the other way round, if you ask me.
Your outfit is perfect for taking a walk and anything else you might want to do. I don’t think it looks grunge at all. To me, you just look casual. I also never liked that grunge look. Like Senora Allnut said, kids dressed in expensive “grungy” looking clothes makes no sense. I think we all are more casual these days during this pandemic. It’s comforting to put on something that we know will be comfy and we feel good in. Enjoy your walks!

Thanks, Arlene! Yes comfy and casual is what we all need these days, and probably will prefer even after the pandemic is finally over.
I think it’s a great outfit, Tina. Perfect for everyday comfort, right? The jeans are fabulous—I do love a good pair of loose wide-legged jeans. Are you wearing Ecco trainers? They look a little bit like the ones I have — slightly pointy at the front?

Thanks!
Yes, the pointy-toe Ecco trainers, I’ve had them for years. They’re simply the best walking shoes I have, and now that I walk almost everywhere, these are the only shoes I wear…
I love the way you wore the scarf it makes for the perfect touch with the long loose layer of the jacket! 🙂 I like the blue and green together too!
I feel my style has got even more casual than it was before – I’m trying to dress it up a bit more with a statement necklace or statement earrings but it’s mostly the school run I’m leaving the house for and my knee injury has been playing up so I’ve been in sneakers almost every day for support. A lot more casual than usual! 🙂
Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you are having good weekend. It’s a wet long weekend here.

Thanks, Mica!
I think we’re all living more casual lives now, so it’s probably just natural that the way we dress reflects that. But I know what you mean about trying to dress up just a bit: I’m starting to really miss my accessories, too. In my case it’s the weather (windy, cool) that keeps me from dressing up as much I’d like to. Somehow, statement accessories seem to require a tad warmer weather, at least in my head…
For me grunge simply symbolizes a relaxed, carefree, don’t give a damn about what anyone thinks look and I think you have absolutely nailed that! You look comfortable, cool, and stylish just as you always do!

Thanks! Yes, That’s. good way to look at it: a relaxed and carefree attitude. I could use some of that, on other aspects of my life, too.
