I like my clothes plain and simple, and my accessories big and bold
I can’t stand clothes with complicated cuts or dangling bits and pieces. I prefer something I can just put on and forget about. Therefore, I’d rather spend my hard-earned money on good quality basics that won’t restrict movement and can be mixed and matched endlessly.
Accessories, on the other hand… Well, you know I love a nice pair (or two, or five) of sunglasses, and a beautiful (but practical) bag is a piece of art I’m willing to invest in, big time.
However, now I’m trying to declutter and downsize. This means cutting the number of bags and sunglasses I have. Less is more, and not just because of limited storage space. Buying, and having, too much stuff is not just bad for the environment but also bad for my mental health.
That’s because all the stuff I buy, and already have, must be stored somewhere. And it requires work: it must be cared for, and organised, and displayed… And too much stuff is just, well, too much. I can’t cope with it. I need room to breathe, and if there’s stuff everywhere, I don’t know what to do with it anymore; I just want it gone.
So, I’m very selective when it it comes to adding new accessories to my collection. Any item must earn its place in my wardrobe: I choose longevity over a passing crush, and quality over trends.
Of course, every now and then I do buy something new. And this outfit has not just one but two new items: the small crossbody bag and a new pair of earrings.
Yes, I fell in love with the bag (the colour! the design!), and I know that a small bag is not the most practical item… In my head it made sense, though. Sort of. You know: ‘in my new, less cluttered and more handsfree life, I will be carrying less stuff with me, because less is more, and so on…’
And, when it comes to earrings, my mantra is ‘the bigger, the better’. Which is why most of my earrings are the size of Christmas tree ornaments. But then again, they have to compete for attention with this mop of messy hair, so I suppose that’s OK.
By the way, I have a really bad nickel allergy. And although I do wear silver necklaces, bracelets and rings, I usually only wear gold, or white gold, earrings.
In fact, I only have one pair of earrings: small white gold and diamond hoops. They came with a set of pearl drops (actually, I have two sets of pearl drops: one small, the other bigger) that I wear whenever I’m in the mood for something a bit more sophisticated.
However, I also wear the hoops with ‘fun’ earrings, like the ones you see here. Whenever I buy a new pair of fashion earrings, I simply break off the hook they came with and dangle them from the hoops instead.

Nice location and looks Springlike. Love the colour of your bag I try to keep my bags small, heavy bags are bad for your back.

Thanks, Flora! Yes, you’re right: heavy bags are bad for the back. I should try to remember that. Especially now that I go for long walks, I prefer to carry as little as possible, and I hope this will become a habit.
I love big earrings! And that purse is such a nice addition and won’t take too much space!

Thanks! Yes, there’s something about big earrings. Big earrings and small bags, that sounds like a good plan for the future, doesn’t it?
Love your style Tiina, it suits you so well. Thank you for sharing on #chicandstylish Jacqui x

Thanks, Jacqui!
That bag is gorgeous; I can see why you chose to add it. It’s funny, even looking at the earrings, it took me a moment to understand what you meant about using the diamond hoops with the fashion earrings. They look like a single pair of earrings. Quite clever!

Thanks, Sally! I fell in love with the bag and just had to have it… Oh well, it happens.
Yes, a good pair of hoops is all you need to accommodate (most) fashion earrings. If the hook comes off easily, you can just dangle the earring from a hoop or hook of your choice.
That bag is gorgeous and a perfect match with the reds in your outfit. I’ve window-shopped at Lovia and I think something from them could be an option next time I need a new bag. So good quality accessories are important to me. I don’t want to have too many of them though. So they are definitely not the centerpieces in my outfits. -q ps. Hyvää Vappua!

Yes, a small selection of good quality accessories is all you need. I’ trying to go for more ‘classic’ colours and styles these days whenever I’m looking for a new bag, to make them more versatile. But every now and then I want to have a bit of a showstopper item.
You look great – I like the outfit, practical and cool.

Thanks, Lise.
I have metal sensitivities too, and I must say your earring arrangement is a brilliant solution!

Thanks! Yes, it works.
That bag is so cute and I find crossbody bags are good pandemic bags! They hold wallet, keys, phone and sanitiser and keep close so they don’t get germs on them! Of course now we are wearing bigger bags with life being back to normal here, but when there were cases around I loved my little crossbody bags!
Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup 🙂 Hope that you have a nice weekend ahead of you!

Thanks, Mica!
Yes, a small bag holds the necessities, and in most cases that’s all we need, even after the pandemic. I think all it takes is a change of attitude to stop carrying everything but the kitchen sink on a daily basis. I must say I’m beginning to like this new ‘handsfree’ approach.
What a great little bag, Tiina! I really like the color and the pattern, too. Your whole outfit is lovely! I love your less is more attitude as well although I cannot practice the same with my wardrobe. I have never been a minimalist and I doubt I ever will be. But I have the space to store my immense wardrobe and accessories collections, so I don’t sweat it too much! Thanks for linking with me!
