Sometimes everything just clicks
Take this belt, for example. Now, I only ever wear belts for one reason: to keep my trousers in place. I’ve yet to find a pair of trousers with the waist-hip ratio to comfortably accommodate my body. A belt is what keeps me from constantly pulling my trousers up…
But back to this belt… I bought it in Barcelona in June, with no idea what to wear it with. I thought maybe I could use it to create a waist in one of those sack-like sundresses the shops are full of (I was getting a bit desperate at that point, not finding any dresses I liked). Of course, I really hate wearing a belt (or anything tight and close to body) in hot weather, so that’s probably one of those ideas that seems good in theory but doesn’t really work in practice.
And then I saw this denim dress, on sale no less, and I knew immediately that it was meant for this belt. So yes, I bought the dress to match it to a belt I already had… Oh well, why not? Of course, it didn’t hurt that I also had just the perfect pair of leopard print sunglasses to complete the outfit…

What’s your view on belts: practical or decorative?

Love the dress and the belt. Such a carefree classic outfit. Hooray for pockets!bisousSuzanne
Thanks, Suzanne. I love the simplicity of this outfit; it's very understated in a way yet chic.
I love this combination! The dress looks so good on you! And what a lovely background. http://www.nancysfashionstyl.com
Thanks, Nancy! We took the photos on a small island just off the mainland.
Oh yes, you were so right to A) buy the belt and B) buy this dress to go with the belt. They are a perfect combination and suit you so damned well. Kudos (fashion word for applaus haha).Greetje
Thanks, Greetje. This just proves that whenever you find something you like, better grab it then because there will be a time when you can wear it…
Fantastic outfit! And on a rather out of context note, I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your intelligent and personal comments concerning Brexit. I urge you to continue writing about this event as things develop (for better or for worse).
Thanks, Marea, for your kind words. I was a bit worried as I didn't want to sound whiny, but then I thought I needed to be honest about how I felt.
Great look – I think the belt is a real style star. Thanks for linking, xo-Pattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com
Thanks, Patti. Belts are a bit of a new thing for me, especially worn over a dress.
The leopard print belt really adds to your denim dress, it was such a good find.Looking very Summery by the water.
Thanks, Jill. I really love leopard print accessories, they can dress up a plain outfit in a minute.
I love this whole look, I'm after a denim dress of some description. Great how you've styled with leopard print – love it! Jacquiwww.mummabstylish.com
Thanks, Jacqui. I like denim in skirts and dresses these days, it's both casual and a bit more dressy at the same time.
I love this look! The belt looks fab with the denim dress!Emma xxxwww.style-splash.com
Thanks, Emma.
This is an absolutely adorable outfit on you, Tiina! Love!
Thanks, Natalia, how sweet of you to say that.
Love the belt. Love the dress. Love the belt with the dress. Love the fact you bought the belt and then a dress to match! That's my girl! And I so get the belt for trousers body ratio – that's me too!
Oh well, when you spot an opportunity… I've learned that when you find something you like, better get it because you will need it one day.
beautiful look! I have a chambray dress similar to this one, I will have to try it with a leopard print belt!
Thanks, Amy.
That leopard print is cute! Love leopard and chambray together.-Kristincountdowntofridayblog.com

Love this denim shirtdress on you Tiina! The cut and style, perfect and the leopard accent look great with the denim! Thanks for linking up with turning heads tuesdayjess xxwww.elegantlydressedandstylish.com
Thanks! I was so happy to find this dress. I think the cut is timeless, but a bit retro at the same time.
Tiina, can I just say how very much I am loving this look! The belt is practical and decorative in this case. It creates more definition in your waist and it is just so darn pretty! I'm like you, I always need a belt with pants or I am hiking them up all day long. I do need to invest in some better belts and start showing them off a bit more! But this is just so fabulous on you. I may need to copy it soon!Just a reminder that the newest On the Edge of the Week Link Up is live now! Shelbeewww.shelbeeontheedge.com
Thanks! This is one of my favourite looks, too. Not least because of the well-defined waistline. I have an hourglass body, and I need a dress with a nipped in waist, otherwise I end up looking 2 sizes bigger.
Thanks so much for linking up with me On the Edge of the Week! I hope to see you again next week. Have a marvelous weekend!Shelbeewww.shelbeeontheedge.com
You look so chic and slightly retro. Love the denim dress, especially paired with the leopard belt with the round buckle. Awesome!Do come by and share this beauty with my latest linkup. Thanks and have a great weekend! Ada. =)http://eleganceandmommyhood.blogspot.com/2016/08/thursday-moda-26-and-flared-eyelet.html
Yes, retro! That's what I was thinking when I first saw it. It reminded me of the 50's Grace Kelly, or something my mother used to wear in the 70's.
I have a leopard belt and wear mine more for decorative purpose than function and it seems to go with everything. I love it with your denim dress!Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you soon! Alicewww.happinessatmidlife.com
I don't usually wear belts for decorative purposes, so this is new to me. But I like the way it looks, and I might try it again with other dresses.
Well my friend I absolutely loved this look. Actually I want to re-create it myself. I featured you on my blog today so come check it out! And welcome by to linkup again.http://eleganceandmommyhood.blogspot.com/2016/09/thursday-moda-27-and-summer-jumpsuits.htmlHave a great weekend! <3 Ada.
Very nice. The belt gives the dress that added touch of style it needed.
Thanks, Susan! My thoughts exactly!
It totally seems like the perfect pairing! Everything happens for something. Thanks for linking up to http://the-wardrobe-stylist.com/2016/08/29/engagement-photo-shoot/
