Does it matter what your loungewear looks like?
Now that my life is (mostly) confined to home, I seem to be wearing more or less the same outfit all the time. In other words, I spend most of my days in the same clothes that I sleep in…
Yes, it’s shocking, I know. But hardly surprising. I mean, who dresses up at home?!?
Of course, I make an effort (or at least pretend to make an effort) to look somewhat presentable when I have online meetings. But when I’m home alone, and there’s nobody to see me, why bother?
Ah, but my husband is there, you might argue. Shouldn’t I make an effort to look nice for him?
Well… I’ve never been the type of woman to dress up for a man. And I’m not about to start now. And, for the record, I don’t expect him to dress up for me, either.
Because sometimes it’s good to just relax and let go of all the (mostly self-imposed) demands to look a certain way or do certain things. Sometimes it’s good to just be, without trying too hard, and focus on how something feels like instead of how it looks like.
And that, in my opinion, is the point of loungewear: I don’t care what it looks like as long as it feels good on my skin. And as long as I can sleep in it, of course.

Couple of years back I started to pay attention to my “loungewear”. Before that I was mostly wearing the most worn out clothes (in true mökki attire) to the end at home. Ecological and economical maybe, but honestly that does no good for your self-esteem.
Now I have some nice casual dresses and neat joggers for lounging. I also use the summer dresses as loungewear like you do in this picture (a reminder for international readers: in Finland the houses are heavily insulated and every cubic meter is centrally heated too). Anything flexible and comfy, definitely no jeans for lounging. But I still make an effort for working hours wearing the more office attire clothes. -q

I agree: home is important, therefore how we feel at home is important. And what we wear at home affects how we feel, so… That being said, it is just as important to be able to ‘let your hair down’ at home, i.e. wear something comfortable and casual. Spending so much time time at home has made me pay more attention to what I wear, and made me want to have nicer loungewear (like the nightie in this post).
My lounge wear is my old clothes. I’m retired I try to feel comfortable when I go out and change into an old version of what I was wearing earlier when I come home. I’d never dream of buying something just to potter around in.

Now that I spend so much time at home, I’m getting a bit lazy: I don’t feel like changing into ‘real clothes’ when I go out. If this continues, soon I’ll do my grocery shopping in my nightie… Fortunately, it’s winter now, and no one can see what I’m wearing under my winter coat.
Being a stay at home mom, I think I would get bored with lounge wear so I mix it up a lot. Mostly I dress up and then here and there wear more of a lounge look. I think it really helps that our weather is mostly mild here. It doesn’t get crazy cold for too long,

Yes, I think the weather plays a big role. I can just wear my nightie all day at home, but if I want to go out, I need to wear something warmer.
It has been cold here in NC, not your kinda cold LOL, but i did buy a few pairs of joggers and sweatshirts for home. I will also wear workout clothes or some days my nightgown. It really does help me to get dressed to an extent to feel better at home. Your dress is lovely with the burgundy cardi too

I think I need to invest in nicer loungewear, too. I tend to just wear my nighties at home, but I’m beginning to think that maybe, in the long run, it’s not a god idea and I should actually ‘get dressed’…
Cheers to that, Tiina! While I do enjoy getting dressed up for a short photoshoot excursion every 2 weeks or so, I spend most of my time in my coziest loungewear, too. And I am cold all the time so I generally look as if I am wearing everything I own! But I am comfy and cozy and I don’t care! I do put makeup on every day because that makes me feel like I did something! Rock on in your adorable loungewear, my friend! You look magnificent!

Thanks! I think I need to start making more of an effort to get dressed, just to remember what it feels like to wear real clothes. In Finland, houses are so well-insulated and heated that you could just walk around in your underwear, whereas at the moment going outdoors means dressing up for an arctic expedition…
That’s a beautiful dress! I’ll change into loungewear most days although there are some days I just wear my pyjamas all day, haha! On the day I don’t leave the house as hubby does the school run I might be in pyjamas instead of loungewear, haha! I’m wearing proper “going out” clothes today though as we will hopefully go for a walk when it cools down later and my parents will be coming over in the afternoon too 🙂
Thank you so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope you are enjoying your weekend 🙂

Oh yes, I can certainly relate to that! Wearing my pyjamas all day, I mean. At times I wonder if I will ever want to wear ‘real clothes’ again…
