It’s that time of the year again:
one day it snows, the next day the snow (well, sleet, actually) is all gone but it’s freezing cold (as in, around 0°C / 32°F)… then it gets (a bit) warmer again, even the sun comes out to play for a few precious hours.
This is when we Nordics turn all Nordic Noir, retreat to our homes and huddle up in front of the SAD light, browsing travel agency websites for a last minute escape somewhere sunny…

BTW, if you’re wondering how to tell your Nordics apart, it’s easy:
the pretty, smiley ones are either Danes or Swedes; the moody ones sulking in the corner are either Norwegians or Finns. And Icelanders… has anyone actually ever seen one??? Anyway, the more outspoken happy-campers are Danes; the terminally politically correct people-pleasers are Swedes. The smug and aloof moody ones are Norwegians. And the socially awkward headbangers are Finns. Yes, I can say that; I’m a Finn, too.
Black really does no favours for my Nordic pasty white face… that’s why I need to hide my weary eyes with my trusty old pair of stylish white Chanel sunnies and wrap a pink leopard scarf around my neck for some attitude boost…

I am taking my Nordic Noir winter look over to Sacramento and Rosy for Share-in-Style, where they conveniently have a black and white theme.

PS: Dilettante Artist has her own blog now, The Dilettante Artist’s Gallery, where I will be posting (very infrequently) random pictures: illustration, photomanipulation, that sort of thing. And there is a pretty, new widget on the sidebar to take you there…
Ahaha I didn't know these tricks on how to recognize different Nordics 🙂 Happy #bloggersharingstyle hun!Baci,Coco et La vie en rose – Valeria Arizzi
Well, we Nordics are a weird bunch of people: at the same time so similar yet very different (from each other, as well as from everyone else), but we can laugh at ourselves (and especially at each other…)
I swear, Tiina, there is always something in your posts that I covet. This time it's that great Vivienne Westwood bag!!!!
Thanks, Marea! I have to confess: I stole the bag from my husband…
This is a great down coat, and the bag is so cool! I recognized "that time of year" and smiled at your hints about Nordic folks. I think you all are adorable. 🙂 xxx
Thanks, Natalia. Yes, that gloomy early winter… it's dark and dreary and spring seems so far away… Time to escape somewhere sunny for a while, huh?
Great info, gorgeous TinaIt is such an honour to have you in the Share-in-Style family.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx
Thanks, Sacramento. Looking forward to next Share-in-Style, as always.
funny and interesting info!!, mwahaha!and you look absolutely comfy and cool in your black outfit!!besos
Thanks! Doing my bit to promote crosscultural understanding…
So good to get a laugh … my ex was Norwegian, and his dad was indeed a smug and dour old guy! Isn't noir a Scandinavian invention, with a French name? You look lovely, and brooding can be an interesting look if it doesn't work it's way into depression! Long winters can make you extra thoughtful, yes? Hence all the great Northern philosophers and artists!Very cool coat and ready to keep you cozy and cheerful!
Thanks, Jan, always great to hear from you. I think long winters just make people a bit bonkers… we all go a bit crazy every year when spring arrives, the sun finally comes out and we thaw a bit…
Stylish as ever Tiina, even in the freezing weather. As usual your great accesories take it up a level. If ever I make it back to the Nordic area, I will heed your advice . Keep warm.
Thanks, Jill. It's early winter, sort of practice round. February is always the real style challenge.
Me gusta tu look abrigado!!!! no sabia lo de los países nórdicos.Besitos!!!
Muchas gracias, Emy.
Hello again Tina, please don´t forget to vote tomorrow for your favourite look ( Rosy and I are not included in the voting. This is all about you all)Tons of kissesXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Since I work in an international, multicultural environment for more than 10 years now, I have learned a lot about behaviours and characteristics amongst the different nations! I have Norwegian and Danish colleagues but no Swedish or Finns though. Both are great colleagues to work with but the Norwegians definitely tend to be more 'quiet'…We don't have any snow yet and it has been quite mild so far but I am getting my down coat and winter boots ready!Annette | Lady of Style
We've had some snow, but it didn't last long… I'm preparing to go to the U.K. in a week, though, and look forward to some warmer weather for a while.
Ha! I love your regional Nordic classifications! Your puffer coat reminds me of all the ones I saw in NYC last April on a cold rainy day. New Yorkers love their black too.
Thanks, Anne! yeah, we Nordics like to laugh at ourselves…
