I have just one maxi dress
I usually buy one, every other year or so, thinking that it’s just what my summer wardrobe needs: ethereal, floaty fabric gently swaying as I walk, enjoying the sunshine and warm summer breeze…
Except that I don’t enjoy the sunshine, and hot weather makes me want to stay indoors, preferably submerged in a bathtub full of ice cubes…
And anything long and floaty is something that I’d rather admire on other people. As far as I’m concerned, long floaty dresses seem like a good idea, in theory, but don’t really go with my personality… or my uncanny tendency to trip over my own feet. So, I’m usually disillusioned quite quickly, and the maxi dress ends up unworn at the back of the closet…
So, this is last year’s maxi dress, I thought I should maybe give it another chance…
I got the dress for a trip to South Korea (you’ve seen it before HERE), and it’s shorter than maxi dresses usually are because it’s from the petite range. I thought that if the dress is a bit shorter and only reaches my ankles, there’s less of a chance of it getting caught on doorhandles (don’t ask) or making me fall face down…
And hot weather hairdos…
I have naturally curly hair, so I have very little control over how my hair looks like on any given day. Trust me, I’ve tried everything… And on a hot day, the last thing I want to do is spend time blowdrying my hair into submission. So I just let it do whatever it wants, which explains why it’s such a mess. You know those magazine pictures of shiny curls tumbling down? It takes a lot of work (and tons of product, curlers, blowdrying, staightening irons etc) to make hair look like that. Naturally curly hair is dry and frizzy, and to make it shine you have to blowdry it using a big, round brush (then it looks wavy rather than curly), which is what I usually do.
But on a hot day… Who cares what my hair looks like? I sure don’t…
I’m wearing:
dress: Boden (old) / shirt: Marks and Spencer / bag: Gloria Ortiz (old) /
sunglasses: Chanel (old) / sandals: Clarks (old)
How do you wear maxi dresses?

I am a bit like you on the subject of maxi dresses , they always look good on others but are not really me. That said I rather like this on you, having it not so long is definately a good idea and the colour is great. Sending some cool your way.
I always find maxidresses much less practical than I thought they would be, that's the problem. This one is quite good, though.
I love the print of the dress. I actually bought my first maxi dress this year and have acquired more than I'd care to admit since then. 🙂
When something works, buy multiples, that's what I think.
I sympathize about the hot weather, the only two things I enjoy doing when the temps are really high are to stay under AC or being on the beach… water is always refreshing. You look beautiful in maxi – but you know of course that I am a fan of maxi dresses and wear them all year long. In hot weather, only cotton though. Long thick curly hair is probably the most beautiful hair to my eyes. You are blessed! One of the teachers in my daughter's school used to have such gorgeous long curly hair that always looked perfect. I asked her how she takes care, and I was surprised to hear that she only washes it once a week and uses product once a week – and it looks like she spends hours every day to have it look like a picture in a magazine. 🙂
My mother used to tell me that I was 'lucky ' because curly hair is so 'easy'… But she wasn't the one waking up looking like a troll, messy hair everywhere. My hair is a real high-maintenance diva: I have 3 times more products for hair than for my skin!!! Maybe I should just let the hair do what it wants and make my life easier…
I really like your maxi dress, perfect blue tones on you, and how you styled it with the knotted top. I know what you mean about hair, i use hot rollars only to have it fall flat in a couple minutes, your s looks nice up! Thanks, Jess! Yeah, doing the hair seems to take up time and require effort, no matter what…
Looking great! I love your dress!Beauty by Miss L Weekly Fashion Link Up!Â
Thanks, Leelo!
I have seen some bloggers tie the bottom of their maxi dress up a bit and I want to try this… this is a great summer look and it is HOT here, too!Carriecurlycraftymom.com
Thanks, Carrie!
Thus is a really pretty dress! Great color & print! I like that it's shorter than the average maxi! I wear maxis when I shoot weddings… it looks like I'm dressed up but I can still move around and bend over to get the good shots without exposing anything ;)Thanks for linking up for #Passion4Fashion 🙂
Thanks! Yes, it's all about finding the right lenght: not too short and too long, but something that both looks OK and works in real life.
Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. I like that you wear an umbrella for sun protection. I hope you started an new trend!
Thanks, Nicole. It's actually a sun umbrella, or a parasol, it even has a special coating to protect against UV rays…
Well dear, keep buying maxis and when you decide you don't like them you can send them to me! 😀 And I always trip over the hems unfortunately. And rip out the seams. But I still love them. Pretty colors on you! Thanks for sharing with FFF!OXOXDawn Lucyhttp://fashionshouldbefun.blogspot.com
Thanks! LOL;)
Hi Tiina! I found your blog — and love it! Lots of fun stuff here. I'm putting it on my blog-list to check regularly. It's been nice getting to know you.
Thanks, Ally! I enjoyed talking to you and hope to stay in touch, will be reading your blog, too, for sure.
I am a big fan of maxi skirts and dresses and think this one looks great on you! Since I am shortie, sometimes I have will knot the bottom if I am too lazy to get it hemmed.Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you Thursday. Alicewww.happinessatmidlife.com
Thanks, Alice! Knotting the hem? Hmm… interesting idea…
