Winter is coming…

winter coat over 40

Don’t let the sunshine fool you

It’s cold, really cold. It was -21ºC / -5.8 ºF when these photos were taken. Yep, welcome back to Finland, the holiday is over…

So, what do we do when it’s really, really cold? Well, it depends… if it’s a weekday, we go to work.

I may not like winter, or cold weather, but that’s unfortunately no reason stop doing what I normally do. Although, this time of the year I always have a sudden urge to move to Australia. Or anywhere where they’ve never seen snow… And then I remember that I hate hot weather perhaps even more than I hate winter.

Oh well, just 3 more months of winter to go…

Speaking from a stinking hot 35 deg day in Australia, you've made the right choice! This our season of hell too. Winter is quite cold but not frigid here. In fact I'll just go back to your cool snow photo for a moment…aah! Xo Jazzy Jack

Why can't it be autumn forever?!? That really would be the perfect season, wouldn't it? Think about it: not too hot, not too cold, no pollen to cause allergies.

For cold weather, you look pretty stylish! Lovely items. The temp is up to 60 degrees F today here in NY which is Summer-like.

Hi again. I want to e-mail you Tiina about doing an interview but can't find an e-mail address for you anywhere. Please e-mail it to me or convey it some other way. Thanks! Mine is fhu@pipeline.com

Thanks! Style is a bit of a challenge in cold weather, though. My priority is to stay warm, and have good shoes with a good grip (icy streets), so practical always wins.

Finland has Oregon beat for cold temps, that's for sure. You look great, however, and I especially love how the ear muffs frame your face. Gotta find me some!

Thanks, Marea! It's been quite cold this January, and I think I've had enough of winter for now, to be honest. Staying indoors as much as possible.

-21c! Don't know how you cope! My sister-in-law is currently living in Stockholm and she's finding it hard with -10C.Those ear muffs are SUPERB!http://petitesilvervixen.blogspot.co.uk/

Well, I suppose I've had some practice… I can cope with the cold, but I don't like it, and winter always lasts too long.

Wow, that's cold. You still look chic and I love that long coat. xox-Pattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com

Thanks, Patti. Yes, it's been quite cold now. Especially since last winter was so mild, barely below freezing most of the time. I don't think I wore this coat at all last winter. This one only comes out for really cold weather.

Not sure how, probably a lifetime of practice, but you look so chic in your freezing weather attire, love your ear muffs , the perfect colour for you. Not sure how you would cope with an Aussie Summer, specially this one , its been very hot and dry. A week of over 30C temps.

Thanks, Jill. Oh well, very hot weather is not pleasant, either. And it's easier to escape the cold simply by staying indoors. I'm writing this wearing just a t-shirt, we tend to have somewhat tropical indoor temperatures in winter.

Don't you just hate winter? It certainly lasts too long, that's what I think.

Well, it's winter, cold weather should be expected. This extreme cold doesn't happen too often, fortunately, and never lasts very long.

You may think I'm a bit crazy but I really miss the cold weather now that I live in California. I grew up near Canada. You look sweet in your fluffy earmuffs.

Yes, cold looks so much nicer from far away, as a nostalgic idea. I miss winter, too, every July. And right now I'n feeling very nostalgic about long, hot summers evenings (I hate hot weather even more than cold…), never happy, huh?

Wonderful colors on you, Tiina! The fur ear muffs are so chic. I always thought they are purely decorative though. Do they keep you warm? It's been -30 C where my parents live, starting with the holidays. They pretty much stay at home when it's that cold. I can't remember when schools closed when I was growing up, at -30 or -35 C. Less than that, it's just life, as you say.

      15 January 2016 / 2:54 pm

Thanks, Natalia. Yes, the ear muffs are really warm, they protect the ears quite well. The coat has a hood, too, but I still need something to keep my ears warm.I remember (occasional) -30 temperatures from my childhood, when I lived in Central Finland, but schools were never closed. At -15 we didn't have to do winter sports (skiing, skating) at school, I think that was the limit. Now, in southern Finland, -20 is a bit unusual, and usually doesn't last long.

Well, it's not always this cold in in winter in southern Finland, fortunately. But it can happen, especially in January or February.

Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. The coat looks like it is a great insulation and keeps you comfy for a while. Aren't you cold on your head? May be you are happier with the weather when I tell you that Alaskans consider this temperature a warm winter day. LOL

    • Tiina L
      17 January 2016 / 12:16 pm

Yes, the coat is very warm. And it has a hood, even though you can't see it in the photos because of the huge collar (which also zips up, so with the hood only my eyes are visible). Oh, yes, this is cold day in southern Finland, not so cold in the north…

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening .http://www.alesiaraut.com/
