What to wear when it’s raining

rainwear over 50

Rain, Rain, and more rain…

It’s raining. Again. Or still. Whatever. It has been raining forever. Well, for the past two weeks, anyway. That’s a lot of rain. Too much rain, if you ask me.

And it seems the rain isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, either. Better get used to it, I suppose.

But it’s not just raining all the time; it’s getting colder, too. That’s why I’m wearing a thicker parka: no more trench coats until spring… Oh well, soon it will be winter, and I will take every excuse to avoid going out. Which is more difficult than it sounds as I work 5 days a week at the moment.

But for now I’m trying to stay warm and dry. That’s what the parka is for: it’s water-resistant and it has a hood. Very practical when you’re in the middle of  the Great Flood.

And yes, I’m wearing wellies (that’s rubber boots for my American readers). You know, because it’s raining. And because there’s nothing sexy about wet socks. In fact, the best way to avoid getting a cold is to keep both your neck and your feet warm and dry.

So, now you know why I always wear a scarf. And good shoes that keep my feet dry. However, when you suddenly find yourself in the middle of the Great Flood, a.k.a the rain that won’t stop, you discover that most shoes are in fact not water-proof.

In other words, there is a time and place for wellies (a.k.a rubber boots)…

We've had a little rain this week. One day it was too warm to wear a mac so I used a brollie. Generally though I'm using a mac with a hood.

A mac with a hood, I totally agree! Although I have both a mac with a hood and a brollie, and yet my hair is still a mess…

I love your colorful umbrella! This is such a cute outfit to wear when it rains. I love the laces on your boots. I wish I could wear an outfit like this right now, but unfortunately it doesn't rain often in Los Angeles and it's pretty warm right now!Thank you for linking up this week! ~xo ShereePoshClassyMom.com

Thanks, Sheree. I got the umbrella a couple of years ago at Marimekko outlet sale. It goes with anything, and is brilliant for a little pop of colour.

Perfect wet weather outfit , that umbrella is certainly the star. Wellies (they are called Gumboots here) are the only way to go in a downpour. As always stylish and practical Tiina.

Thanks, Jill. I like umbrellas with either a vivid colour or a nice pattern. I used to lose my umbrellas (those boring black ones) all the time, but I seem to take better care of the more colourful ones.

Thanks! Yes, fab accessories, they can lift even a drab outfit. I have quite a collection of umbrellas, but I also seem to have my favourites. Or, rather, favourite of the moment…
