Wardrobe Staples
We all have items that we consider wardrobe staples. That is, clothes that we ‘can’t live without’.
No, I don’t mean those lists you see in magazines. You know, of items every woman is supposed to have. They’re just stupid. And useless. But more importantly just stupid.
My life is not similar to yours. So, why should my wardrobe staples be the same as yours? More importantly, why should I, or you for that matter, emulate some imaginary woman existing only in the mind of a fashion journalist or a blogger obsessed with lists?
Besides, have you noticed that this imaginary woman always ’needs’ a crisp white cotton shirt and a beige trench? Now, I have exactly one long-sleeved cotton shirt, and it’s neither crisp nor white. And trench coats… OK, I have quite a few, but none of them is beige.
Getting a bit digressed here…
Whatever you consider your wardrobe staples depends on your personal style and lifestyle. And therefore your wardrobe staples may be very different from mine. But one thing is for sure: whatever you call your wardrobe staples is bound to be something you wear often, year after year, with minor variations.
Take this outfit, for instance: a striped top and a red poncho. If these aren’t wardrobe staples, I don’t know what is. Of course, I’m talking about my wardrobe staples here.
I have featured this particular combo on the blog so many times that I’ve lost count long ago. And because I’m lazy, I tracked down only four of those posts:
Original blog posts, from left to right: 1, 2, 3, 4
So, about the red poncho… As you can see, I have it in no less than 4 (!!!) different shades of red (I also have it in blue, off-white and in purple plaid. Hey, it’s a wardrobe staple!)…
As for tops with blue and white stripes… No, I haven’t counted how many I have. Because I know the answer: too many.
Although… you can’t really have too many striped tops, can you?

I know those lists , they give me a good laugh ,who lives that life. We all have our go to staples- I always admire your selection of striped tops and ponchos.
Thanks, Jill!
How funny because yesterday's post on my blog was all about our go to pieces!! And of course ours should be different than everyone elses!! It's a fabulous point!! I have limited myself to a couple of the same things now—I crave variety in my life although that changes from time to time!!XOXOJodiewww.jtouchofstyle.com
Well, what can I say, "Great minds think alike"? ;)I'm trying to limit myself, too, when it comes to buying duplicates. So far without much success, I'm afraid…
We all have our go to's and stripes are mine! The pattern makes it easy to be put together without having to put too much effort into it! Lol 😂 Love your red poncho too! Very nice outfit if I say so myself.Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
Exactly! Stripes are so easy to combine with anything. Well, and stripes always look cool…Thanks, Maureen!
Beautiful outfit!https://julesonthemoon.blogspot.it
Thank you, Giulia!
Stripes, ponchos AND sunglasses! That dark red colour is fantastic on you, nearly as good as the dark pink in your previous post. Or maybe in fact just as good! The ponchos are a very elegant way of keeping warm and comfy. One can never have too many perfect items in my mind. You should never stop buying ponchos as long as you live in Finland!
Thank you! Yes, red is my colour. Any shade of red (well, almost any shade…), it always works…
mwahah, a woman can't have too many striped tops, as I'm concerned. And you look fabulous in your red ponchos, and all of them have a different shade!.I totally agree on these lists of wardrobe staples, they're stupid. I've never needed a white shirt, my mom have a hundred no-crispy shirts, what's the matter with this!? Every woman has her own style!besos
I totally agree. How could I not? That would be almost like admitting to some sort of an addiction…Yes, there are so many shades of red, and I MUST have them all!!!
Tiina, you had me seriously laughing! Hahaha! Your words are so true, though. I would have never thought of a red poncho as a wardrobe staple, but I can see how it could be now. Great words of advice. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday! Jennie –Â A Pocketful of Polka Dots
Thanks, Jennie.Oh yes, ponchos are very useful: you just throw one on if it gets a bit cooler in the evening. Or wear one in early autumn instead of a coat. And you can wrap yourself in a poncho on the plane, like having your own blanket.
