trench coat weather

It’s that time of the year again…

I’m talking about spring, of course: the warm(er) sunny days, followed by the sudden winter backlash of sleet; the patches of lingering snow here and there, the pollen itching your eyes…

No, spring isn’t my favourite season. Far from it; I dislike it almost as much as I dislike winter. Why? The unpredictable, moody weather and pollen for starters…

Anyway, last weekend was sunny and warm (with temperatures in the double digits!). Of course, this is Finland; it didn’t last long, and as I’m writing this, it’s raining. Or at least that’s what I choose to call it: rain. Although it looks suspiciously like snow… Never mind. It’s only April; it will get warm(er) and sunnier by the weekend again. Maybe.

how to style a trench coat for spring

Another reason I don’t like spring very much is that I never know what to wear. In summer and winter it’s easy: I have my loose kaftans and summer dresses for warm weather, or my cashmere knits and heavy parkas for cold weather. But April is frustrating. It’s too warm for winter wear, yet nowhere near warm enough for summer clothes.

And before you ask: no, I don’t find autumn as frustrating. I find making the transition from summer clothes to warmer, wintery clothes easier, for whatever reason.

And in spring I always want to get new clothes… Of course, I usually buy something new for autumn, too. But they tend to be big-ticket items, such as wool coats and cashmere. However, it’s too warm for wool coats now (or, rather, it was when these pictures were taken). And right now I never want to see cashmere again (don’t worry, this is temporary; It has everything to do with being so tired of winter. Come September, I’ll be all over the lovely new cashmere jumpers in shops…).

All I want to get at this point are summer clothes: silk trousers and kaftans and linen t-shirts. And sandals and floppy hats and straw bags… Although, when I get back to my senses, I’ll realise that I never wear hats (of any kind), and straw bags are just too impractical. But you get the idea; I’m not inspired by spring at all.

So, about this outfit… This is what happens when you’re scraping the bottom of the old wardrobe: summer trousers and a lightweight, long-sleeved cotton top, and an old trench coat to top it off. Not very inspiring, but fit for purpose.

Thank you. The scarf was a present from my husband. He often brings me lovely scarves as a souvenir when he travels (for work).

That’s a beautiful coloured trench Tinna, I’ve only a beige one! Although I needed my big coat yesterday because it was so chilly. Thanks for sharing on #chicandstylish Jacqui Mummabstylish

Thanks, Jacqui. I’d love to have a ‘classic’ trench, but beige really doesn’t suit me. When it comes to neutrals, I think anything bluish is a better match to my natural colouring.

I love this comfy&cool style, your trench, your striped t-shirt and those accessories which enhance this fab color combo!. You rock your accessories! and look fabulous!
Here we’re coming into the right part of spring, when it’s more ‘autumnal’, and I can play with layers and wear summery clothes and winter clothes all together (actually, I like this!). Allergies and uncomfortably warm days are just around the corner (ugh!)

Thank you! You know me; I love my accessories…
Your spring sounds nice. We have lots of sunshine and well over 14 hours of daylight already. The temperatures are still in single digits mostly, but pollen is becoming a real problem (in about two weeks it’s going to be a full-on pollen onslaught, never mind the temperature… not looking forward to that)

Thanks, Mica! Autumn is the best season, isn’t it? Not too hot, no pollen, and the leaves are turning golden.
