This is what I was wearing on my birthday last week. It was one of the first really warm summer days, and we were going to dinner in a summer restaurant on a small island. If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ve seen this island featured before, many times.
Anyway, as it was rather warm (= well over +20°C), and the sun was really bright, my main concern was sun protection. And good shoes: you can only get to the island by a shuttle boat.
So, I opted for something simple and understated: my favourite dress from last summer, and a new linen shirt.
Yes, I know, the ‘new’ linen shirt looks a lot like the old linen shirt I was wearing in photos taken in more or less the same location last year. In fact, the whole outfit looks more or less the same…
That’s my problem: whenever I buy something new, I end up getting something very similar to what I already have, or used to have. That’s what my husband always says, too, when I show him something that I’ve just bought: ‘but it looks like something you’ve had for ages‘…
Am I in a rut? You bet! and not just when it comes to my wardrobe…
And yes, perhaps I should do something about it. And I will, eventually. But at the moment, this particular ‘rut‘ takes all my energy, and there’s simply no room for innovation and creativity. So, for the time being (= until I can take some time off from work), it’s just the same old drudgery, day in, day out…
Am I suffering from burnout? Possibly. Or pandemic fatigue? Definitely. Or do I simply need a holiday? Absolutely, can’t wait…

That’s a fresh summery outfit. Although I live in the S of France I have only started wearing my Summer linens this week we have had a very poor Spring. Certainly fed up with restrictions but I try to be positive and at least I’m still vertical.

A couple of weeks, can’t wait…
When at outfit works this well, why not repeat it? I pinned it as outfit inspiration; it’s simple but I’d like to try these 3 components together.

Thanks! This was my favourite dress last summer, I wore it all the time, and with anything: linen shirts, cardigans, pashminas…
This is such a great outfit for your birthday outing. You are styled perfectly for a casual day out. And hey, you like what you like and so you end up with a variety of similar things in your wardrobe. But we all need variety even if it is with similar things! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
