It’s autumn: sunset is getting earlier every day, and the evenings are getting cooler. It’s time to bring out my favourite early autumn cover-up: the wool poncho.
It’s an easy piece to add when you need something a bit warmer, and it goes with anything. Or at least I wear it with anything…
By the way, I have 5 of these ponchos, in several colours… But this burgundy one is my favourite. Why? Because it goes with anything…
As for my autumn wardrobe… It’s way too early to even think about that. Oh no, I’ll be hanging on to my summer clothes for a while still. As long as possible. Because I’ll have months of wearing nothing but parkas and cashmere ahead of me, and I’m in no hurry to start.
Yes, autumn is my favourite season, and yes, I do like my autumn clothes. But as soon as I start wearing them, it’s as if I’m admitting that summer is really over, and then it will be forever before I see my summer clothes again… Does that make sense? No? Never mind. I’m hanging on to summer, and (the majority of) my summer wardrobe, until night temperatures drop to zero and Mother Nature forces me to face the prospect of the the long, dark Nordic winter. I think I have a few weeks to go, still…
Outfit details (all old):
dress: Marimekko / poncho: Marja Kurki / earrings: Aarikka

Are you looking forward to autumn? Or wearing your autumn clothes yet?

Thanks, Jasna.
Love your poncho. The color is beautiful. It’s gotten cooler here the past few days, especially at night. I had to go in my Fall clothing and dig out a 3/4 sleeve top yesterday. I know how you feel about winter clothing. The winter seems to last forever. I’m so tired of the clothes and coats by the end of it. So your idea of holding onto the summer clothes for awhile is a good one. Arlene from NJ

Thanks, Arlene. Yes, winter always seems to last forever, By March I’m always ready to burn all my winter clothes, I hate them so much (but of course I never do). So, I’m delaying the transition to warmer clothes for as long as I possibly can. But the fact is that it’s getting cooler, and Im going to need long sleeves and coats sooner than I’d like…
I hate thinking about fall because then …. well…winter. I DO love breaking out the ponchos and wraps and booties though and I know I can’t have it both ways, so no, your back-and-forth about this seasonal change doesn’t confuse me a bit! I do love that dress and the way you’ve paired it with the burgundy wrap. Burgundy does go with so much. I think I need a burgundy wrap now :/ The earrings and sunnies are just perfect with that outfit and you look beautiful!

I hear you… Autumn is fine, I like it. But winter… not looking forward to it.
Thanks, Ruth!
I put more and more summer clothes away in a box. Now wool is back in heavy rotation. I’m postponing my winter coat as long as possible, but it won’t be long.. I actually like autumn a lot, but I dread the thought of the many dark, cold months to come. I can deal with the cold fairly well – the rainy days that never shows real daylight is what I dread the most. I truly enjoy your blog, I guess I feel some kind of comfort and support. I find it increasingly hard to read californian style blogs by now..

Thanks, Anne.
I know, I’m doing the same: putting away (some) summer clothes, budgeting my winter wardrobe shopping… Actually, I love autumn, so rediscovering my wool coats is not that bad. It’s the heavy winter stuff; there’s no going back, and then it will be forever till spring.
Oddly enough, it’s not the late autumn-early winter rainy days and grey skies that I dread. For me, it’s the blinding sunshine and tons of snow in March that I find the worst.
Love that colour, when I was a brunette I thought it was my most flattering shade. I still wear it a lot. Living in Nice I look forward to Autumn and Winter less tourists and more opportunities to wear my favourite clothes. November can be rainy but mostly it’s sunny and cool here.

Thanks, Flora. I’ve always loved red (most shades of red), and it seems to be one of my best colours, too.
I wish we had your kind of winters… I’m not looking forward to snow an ice.
Totally agree that your burgundy poncho goes with everything and you rock it!. Love particularly this outfit, the burgundy and the floral print, they look so fabulous together!. You are gorgeous!
And I like this side of the summertime, when it’s not really hot but we still enjoy warm temperatures and wear our summer clothes in layered outfits!, so many possibilities!

I love early autumn; it’s warm enough (as opposed to ‘too hot’ in summer) and the weather is often nice. But the days are getting shorter every day. Sunset is at 8 already! And pretty soon it will be dark in the morning when I leave for work. That always takes some getting used to, for me.
This is a really pretty dress and I love it with the red wrap.

Thanks, Julie. It’s one of my favourite hot weather dresses, but it works in autumn, too.
That is such a cute poncho! I love the color – perfect piece for Fall!

Thanks, Grace! I like this Burgundy red, it goes with most of the other colours in my wardrobe.
Great colours together, and a good outfit for Autumns fickle weather. Thanks for sharing. Jacqui Mummabstylish

Thanks, Jacqui. Yes, a poncho is great for those cooler early autumn evenings.
I love this color pairing

Thanks, Mireille!
Sensational color combo on you Tiina! I love the burgundy with the rose pink of your dress, and the dangling earrings add more elegance too! We have a long summer here and it still is 90 degrees, so I have to be patient. I know what you are saying, you arent in a hurry for very cold temps!

Thanks, Jess! I like this colour combination, too. And I miss summer already…
This burgundy is so gorgeous on you! No wonder it is your favorite poncho. I am with you…Fall is my favorite season, but once it arrives in my arctic climate, it doesn’t last long, and I am in for 8 months of cold and snow! This is a brilliant way to transition your Summer pieces into the cooler weather.

Thanks! Yes, I love the darker shades of red, can’t go wrong with burgundy…
And I know exactly what you mean; winter lasts FOREVER , also here, in southern Finland (about 700 km south from the polar circle)…
That is such a cosy poncho and I love the burgundy on you! I haven’t packed all my winter things away yet, even though we are a couple weeks into spring, and the weather is so summer-like! I have a few more outfits I wanted to wear with my cardigans before I say goodbye to them for a few seasons, haha!
Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp 🙂

Thanks, Mica! II know what you mean. t’s this transitional period between seasons that is so tricky: one day it’s warm and the next day it’s cold and rainy. The weather is so unpredictable, it’s difficult to decide what to wear. I’m starting to find my winter clothes gain, but I’m not looking forward to wearing them yet.
I love the print of your dress, and the burgundy poncho looks fabulous with it. I’m in sartorial limbo at the moment – sometimes it’s really warm, and sometimes it’s quite cool. All the clothes are out at the moment, literally everywhere. I’m going on holiday at the end of next month so will probably wait until then to pack my Summer clothes away. Thanks for linking up!

Thanks, Emma! I know what you mean: the weather is so unpredictable, it’s really difficult to decide what to wear. One minute the sun is out and you’re taking off your jacket, and then all of a sudden it starts raining…
