Subtle Pattern Mixing

Déjà vu?

This is not the same outfit I was wearing in Milan, I swear. Although it looks quite similar, I admit. Let’s put that down to my ‘signature style‘, OK? It sounds so much better than admitting I’m in a style rut…

The shoes, bag and sunglasses are the same. But I’m wearing a different pair of trousers (OK, both are brown, but these are cords…) and a cashmere top. And the jacket is different.

Yes, it’s the same style (and the same brand). This one has a camo print. And it’s a bit shorter and has a warmer lining. That’s because these photos were taken in Aberdeen, and it was cold (or colder than in Milan, anyway) and windy.

And if this winter continues much longer, I’m going to run out of clothes (not to mention ideas) for new outfits. Seriously, I’m so tired of all my winter / cold weather clothes, at this point I just want to burn them all…

So, in a desperate attempt to revitalise my look, or to add something new to this outfit, I borrowed a scarf from my husband. No, I’m not going to steal it; this was a one-off (I bought the scarf for him, after all).

But hey, I’m wearing tartan! In Scotland! No cliché in sight… Can you wear tartan with camo print?

Totally tired of my winter wardrobe too – but I am feeling very fat and frumpy So aside from eating cheese to cheer myself up I bought a new handbag – very lovely and it arrives in a couple of days, seriously no point buying clothing at the moment even if I wanted to as the shops are full of “meh” and buying anything at this time of year always is a disaster for me as I am so desperate for spring that I end up regretting any clothing purchases The handbag however was on sale and very classic without being dull. LOVING that coat and yes you can wear tartan with it

I can certainly relate to that (feeling fat and frumpy, that is), except in my case I turn to chocolate for a little pick-me-up.
And a good handbag is every woman’s best friend: it carries everything you need, and never makes you look fat or frumpy.

I’m definitely over winter clothes and ready to transition to spring any way I can! Hope you have a super week! Thanks for joining Ageless Style!

Trust me, spring can’t come soon enough (watching the snowstorm raging outside…)

Oh yes indeed you can wear tartan with camo. It is a refreshing combination.
I think March is very normal time to get tired of your winter outfits. After all it is hard to realise, it is a whole month more of cold winter weather and snow. Or endless November rain as the forecast is for this March here.
I’m also totally tired with my winter wardrobe. I’ve worn to the end the best pair of my trousers. Everything else seems to have flaws: like the deep navy trousers, they remind me of bus drivers’ uniform (how unflattering feeling to wear them) or most of the cardigans feel too short. At the moment I really relay on the mantra “Who needs to be fashionable every day (read year)”. -q

Oh yes, we have the choice between snow/sleet/slush or ‘eternal November’, or that’s what it seems like at the moment.
Isn’t it awful when our best clothes give up on us? It’s so difficult to find a good pair of trousers. I sometimes wonder if fashion designers know what their potential customers want; they seem to be designing clothes for some sort of an ‘ideal customer’ instead of real people.

Speaking as a Scot I approve of tartan with everything, :). However, I think you’ll find that’s not a tartan it’s a check. Nice combination and thanks for not calling it ‘plaid’. I have the reverse of your gripe I have had to put away my more ‘wintery’ stuff and I feel as if I didn’t get my money’s worth out of my new jacket. We’ll have lighter evenings in a few weeks so that helps with the blues.

Phew! A check is better than a tartan. At least nobody can accuse me of cultural appropriation, then (can’t be too careful these days: whatever you do or say, somebody will be offended, it seems).
I also feel that I’ve had very little use for my ‘cold weather wardrobe’ this year. I bought a new winter coat, and I’ve hardly worn it at all! And I have quite a few cashmere tops I haven’t even taken out of storage yet. We’ve been in some sort of eternal November limbo: it’s grey and rainy and cold but not cold enough for real winter stuff. But yes, at least the days are getting longer fast.

I think leopard is a neutral that goes with anything….even tartan. In fact, I may have worn the combination while we visited Scotland. Not intentionally. lol! I was just so excited to wear the scarf. Hope you have a great weekend and hope it warms up soon.

Leopard and tartan, why not, it sounds like a fun combination.

I love tartan paired with camo! I kind of have started viewing a lot of prints as neutrals including tartan, camo, leopard, stripes, and dots. So any pairing of these are fabulous in my opinion. I think we are all kind of over winter clothing by this point! Spring will be here soon, I suspect! Thanks for sharing and linking up!

Oh yes, stripes go with anything. Always. But I might be a bit biased here…

That scarf looks so cosy I can see why you borrowed it! 🙂 I find it’s easy to pick up more scarves to make my winter outfits feel a little different each time, just change the scarf! 🙂

Hope that you had a great weekend 🙂 Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp 🙂

Oh, it’s a lovely scarf! Cashmere… I should have bought myself one, too.

  9. 12 March 2020 / 8:17 pm

lovely tartan and camo combo!, I think that this kind of ‘subtle’ camo works as a neutral and the elegant scarf match your brown trousers and burgundy top, so everything goes without being too obvious. And it looks really comfy too!
We have not had a proper winter here in the north of Spain, so my puffer coats have been barely used and I’ve felt a little bit cheated. Now we have spring-like weather which looks like May (or June) and I’m totally confused (more than usual, I mean!). Weather is going bananas.

      Thanks!
It’s been a weird winter, hasn’t it? This time last year we had a lot of snow, and this year we’ve hardly seen any. Not that I miss the snow or cold weather…
