The sea and the sun, the Nordic edition…
I love the sea. No, I don’t sail, and I can’t swim. And I spent (most of) my childhood living by a lake. But I’ve lived in a city by the sea for over 2/3 of my life, and I couldn’t imagine living (full-time) anywhere that is landlocked.
And of course my dream is to one day have a sea view of my own. Yes, one day. When I’m rich. You know, win the Lottery or something. Given the real estate prices in this town, that’s what it would take. But, one can always dream…
Lucky for me, Helsinki has about 123 km shoreline, with 315 islands withing the city limits (some of them are very small…). Quite a few of these islands are recreational areas and accessible to the public. So, even without that elusive Lottery win, the seaside is within my reach, if not for 24/7, then at least for a day.
And the best part? I don’t need to own a sailing boat to to visit one of the pretty little islands, either; a dinner reservation is enough.
I’m talking about summer restaurants, of course. In case you’re not familiar with the concept, let me explain. A summer restaurant is only open during summer (the sea is frozen in winter…), often (but not always) situated on an island and accessible by a shuttle boat.
I can’t even remember how many times we’ve had a photo shoot on this island. But if you’ve been following this blog for a while, you may have seen it before, at least once or twice…
And yes, you’d think that with 315 islands there’s no shortage of shooting locations. Yet, we always seem to end up in the same place.
That’s because of the food. Professor M is a bit of a foodie (well, so am I), and he chose the restaurant. And he’s very loyal to his favourite restaurants, and wants to make sure we visit each of them at least once every summer…

I love the idea of a "summer restaurant". And the views you show are magnificent. Who wouldn't want to see the sea all the time? Love your look, and enjoy the warm days, xo-Pattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com
Thanks, Patti.
Whenever we are in the UK we always stay by the sea. The sound of it, the sound of the seagulls is fantastic!
I can understand, the sea is amazing. But you can't be that far from the sea in the Netherlands, either?
The gulls can be a nuisance when they come inland. I love your cheery Breton.https://www.muttonstyle.com
Oh yes, we have seagulls that try to steal your ice cream here… Thanks, Anna.
Tiina, your stripes the perfect nod to the seaside. I always enjoy your posts of your trips to the Summer restaurants. Even though I live on an island we are not by the sea but it is only a relatively short drive Enjoy those Summer days.
Thanks, Jill. I'm lucky to live in a town where the sea is never too far away. In summer, though, it would be lovely to be on the seaside all the time. In winter, on the other hand… Well, maybe there are advantages to living a bit further away.
Beautiful outfit and pictures!!https://julesonthemoon.blogspot.com/
Thanks, Giulia.
That handbag is perfection!
Thanks, Courtney.
You know I'm convinced I'll win the lottery one day – and I don't even enter haha! I love dreaming about all the things I'll do for my family! My Aunty lives by the sea here in England and I love visiting her and walking along the cliffs xx Maria
Reading about Lottery winners, I can't help but think that Lottery wins are always wasted on wrong people. You know, people without any ambition or sense of adventure. They never want to do anything or change anything about their lives, total waste… Yes, this is envy speaking…
Me too! And what a lovely location it is too. My beach is only 5 mins away, but I don't use it like I should do! Jacqui Mummabstylish
Thanks. Well, my home town has lots of lovely locations, even if I say so myself…
lovely outfit and lovely pictures!, living in a (south) seaside home is one of my dreams, which also involves Lottery (mwahaha)!I like the idea of a summer restaurant in an island!, really fresh and summery!besos
Thanks! Yes, a seaside home, the stuff dreams are made of…
