Scandi Cool meets Spanish Flair…

It seems I just can’t stay away from Barcelona…

The British summer can be very nice (mild, usually not too hot, and I don’t mind the rain, except for what it does to my hair…), which is why I like to escape Finland (and the scorching temperatures) to Britain this time of the year… So, why do I then go to Spain, where it’s even hotter???

Well, Professor M is on holiday… I mean, he is actually taking time off from work, and he needs to put some distance between himself and his office. And I will be going back to work in early August, and don’t want to start thinking about it quite yet. And we didn’t have a chance to go to Montserrat in spring. Thus, Barcelona it is, for a few days…

It was hot… way too hot. I’m beginning to understand the concept of siesta. You really need to stay away from the sun during the day.

I came up with this hot-weather hairdo to keep my neck a bit cooler… I don’t usually do much to my hair (except trying to blowdry it into submission): as a daughter (and niece) of a hairdresser I have had every possible hairstyle tried and tested on my hair, and I just can’t stand spending time doing that myself… Besides, with a curly hair, it really doesn’t matter what you do; your hair will do its own thing whether you like it not.

That doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t want my low-maintenance do with a bit of (Catalan) flair… Thus, matching the flowers to my old Marimekko canvas bag seemed like the perfect way to keep (Scandi) cool in the heat…

It was really hot, and my hair felt like a blanket around my neck… The flowers sort of hide how messy the hairdo is, too.

Thanks, it's a bit of an unusual look for me, though: hairdos and flowers are both a bit out of my comfort zone.

Even if having flair is fine, neither in Catalonia nor in whole Spain women habitually go with flowers in their hair, only when they dress up, e. g. flamenco or stylish wedding. Clichés out!Certainly you look like flamenco…

I am aware of that. However, I think you completely missed the Scandi Cool bit of the outfit…

I am afraid so. I'm sorry.

Well, as far as cliches go, maybe we should take an ironic stand on them, which is what I was trying to do here: putting two cliches together. As you can see, I'm not exactly a 'tall blond', either…

You are quite right. Maybe it's irony the better way of facing cliches. There are always more things beyond the surface…

Thank you SO much for your comments on my blog! I hope you'll visit often.Thirty years ago I travelled through France and Spain and absolutely fell in love with Barcelona. If I could live anywhere in the world it would be there. The flowers in your hair are so beautiful, as are you, and very much at home in Spain.Aliciaspashionista.com

I love Barcelona! Well, I've been there twice this year, once a year for ten years. It is my favourite town (along with London, of course… Ok, I'm a bit fond of Helsinki, too…)

That's what. I thought: your 'winter' is 'summer' for me… A couple of degrees more and I'd be wearing sandals… Although now that I'm writing this it is about +30, a bit too hot for my taste…

This is actually quite an unusual style for me, I hardly ever wear my hair up. It was just so hot… It's funny, people always say curly hair looks so nice, I've been at war with mine forever, trying to make it 'behave'. Except now that it's so hot I can't be bothered… Maybe if this heat wave continues I will finally make peace with my hair.

Dear Tina you make Spanish women proud, you do look a bit Spanish and the flowers enhance your lookOne of the reasons I keep my hair short is the heat, lolThank you sooooooooooooooo much for joining and sharing your style with us.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

Thank you Sacramento. Actually, I've always wanted a short hair. And I cut my hair short once… Not a good luck: curly hair stands up, and I mean UP… Like having a 4cm crewcut all over my head…
