Stripes, big sunglasses, a poncho…
I’m so predictable. There’s hardly a post without me wearing at least one of the above-mentioned items. Is that boring?
To be honest, I don’t need a lot of variety. When it comes to my clothes, that is. As a freelancer with irregular income and work schedule, a husband who works in another country, and two homes (in two countries), I cherish anything that is constant and predictable in my life, whether it’s my favourite coffee shop or my personal style.
My personal style is my security blanket: something that remains the same in the ever-changing, unpredictable world. It’s a way of rooting myself in reality. Or in my reality: this is who I am, and I have no plans to change that for anyone or anything (been there, done that, etc… But that’s another story).
So, here I am, wearing my most current security blanket, the navy and burgundy poncho, again.
On the other hand, any style blogger worthy of the name should be able to show how to mix and match their favourite basics again and again. I think we should focus on that. Instead of my neuroses, I mean.
But, in case you’re wondering: my policy on neuroses (mine, that is) is to embrace them (since I can’t beat them, and I definitely don’t want to obsess about them).
What? Other people’s neuroses? Well, that’s their business, and I’d prefer them to keep it that way, if you know what I mean…
OK, let’s pretend I’m more stylish than neurotic… Work with me on this, OK?
Whenever I buy something new, I want it to blend in seamlessly with the rest of my wardrobe. With limited resources, I want to maximise the wear I get out of a piece. And as I have (very) limited closet space, I cannot store clothes I don’t wear. In other words, (almost) everything in my wardrobe must be versatile and practical, and something I can mix and match endlessly.
When I bought this poncho, I knew I could wear it with so many of my t-shirts or long-sleeved tops. And it would go with quite a few of my handbags. Which is quite important, by the way, as I tend to spend a lot more on my handbags than on my clothes. Or, because I’m far more attached to my handbags than to my clothes. There are dozens of striped t-shirts (most of them in my wardrobe) in the world but very few really nice bags… OK, so I’m not just a neurotic; I also have a bit of a handbag addiction…
And when it comes to handbags, it’s not about quantity but about quality for me. A good bag should last forever, that’s my motto. Therefore, I only buy a bag if I’m absolutely in love with it. However, a girl can love more than just one bag…

Thanks, Lisa.
I love how you show us how to mix and match your pieces. I have way more clothing than any single person needs so I have implemented a shopping freeze because I can very easily shop my closet and never buy anything new ever again! I will shop again but for now I am enjoying styling what I already have and making old things feel new again. This poncho is one of my favorites of yours. The burgundy and navy is such a beautiful combination for fall and winter. And that handbag is magnificent!

Thanks!
Having fewer clothes (and less stuff) makes life easier. I get anxious if I my closets are too full, it makes me feel as if ‘stuff’ controls me… Yet, I think I still have too many clothes (or the wrong kind of clothes). My goal is a minimalist wardrobe that has everything I need but nothing extra. Needless to say I’m nowhere near that…
Definitely agree with you on the handbags, haha! I like to splurge on them too. Nothing wrong with having a go-to outfit combo either, easy outfit formulas are all I wear nowadays!
Hope that you had a great weekend 🙂 Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp 🙂 I just posted this week’s linkup, I’d love you to join again! 🙂

We should have a support group for handbag addicts, we could call it ‘Bag Ladies Anonymous’ or something…
