Repeat Offender

how to wear pastels over 40

This is what I was wearing when I went sightseeing (OK, shopping, whatever…) in Barcelona. Yes, another hot weather outfit: loose and comfortable, covering as much skin as possible (to protect me from the sun).

And you may (or may not) remember that I posted almost exactly the same outfit a couple of years ago (with an orange linen shirt instead of a pink one). Yes, this is how long I keep wearing the same clothes… And why not? I hate the idea of wearing something just once, or even just one summer. I’m very much against throw-away culture and fast fashion, and buy (most of) my clothes intending to wear them for several years. And I don’t mind repeating outfits, either.

That being said, the sandals here might not get a second outing very soon. They’re very pretty, and felt really comfortable at first. Yet, they gave me enormous blisters. Seriously, I can still see the scars on my left foot, almost two weeks after these pictures were taken…

And the hair… That’s not an updo. Not really: I just pulled the hair away from my neck and pinned random strands up, a bit haphazardly. My hair is actually rather thin and soft, but because it’s naturally curly it looks bigger. And it sort gets a bit crazy when it’s hot (or humid). This means that it gets even bigger and curlier and makes my neck sweat… So, I just pinned it up for comfort.

And no, I haven’t thought of cutting my hair short. It’s not that I don’t like short hair, quite the contrary: my dream hair would be a tidy pixie cut… But, with a curly hair (like mine) that won’t work. Trust me: been there, done that, destroyed the photos…  No, my hair has decided that it will only behave (to some extent, and not every day) as long as I keep it shoulder length. Hence the haphazard updo…

This looks pretty and comfy. Too bad about the sandals. I hate it when that happens. I also find that shoes + heat + humidity = blisters.bisousSuzanne

Thanks, Suzanne. Yes, with shoes there's always the risk that they turn out to be impractical. And you only know it after wearing them for a day or two, that's the annoying part. So, by the time you figure out your shoes want to kill your feet it's too late to return them…

Love that Furla bag and isn't that frustrating, a shoe that feels great when you try it on to buy it and then turns evil when you try and actually walk anywhere in it. And Clarks, no less. They are usually really foot friendly! I wore them a lot when I was teaching.

Yes, evil shoes! And some of the masquerade as soft and comfy and turn on you when you least expect it… Most of my shoes are from Clarks, and usually they're very good.

Sorry about the shoes – I hate when that happens. These pinks are really pretty on you, and I think we have very similar hair : >xo-Pattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com

I hate buying shoes, mainly because you never know whether you end up wasting your money… Do you have a love-hate relationship with your hair, too?

I would repeat this outfit too, it is just so pretty on you and it does look cool and comfortable. Pity about the sandals , so annoying when that happens.

I don't remember this two years ago it's all fresh to me, Tiina. And despite all that sweltering you're talking about, you certainly look as fresh as a breath of Spring air to me 🙂

Thank you, Sheela, that's so sweet of you to say that… The truth is we took these photos around the corner from the hotel, so I guess I was still feeling, and looking, reasonably fresh. I mean, after a couple of hours in that hot weather it was a different story…

That skirt is so pretty, airy and versatile. It surpasses years and trends. Love it with the matching blouse for a monochrome look!Welcome by on Thursday and linkup with me pretty lady. And I'd love you to co-host Thursday Moda with me sometimes. I have dates open in July and August. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks, Ada. =)

Thanks, Jessica. I guess you always take a chance with shoes, you never know whether they're good or not until you've worn them for a while.

Pink looks great on you. It looks like a monochromatic outfit, despite it is not. Great way how you created the impression. Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style.

Thanks, Nicole. I like the combination of pink and orange, or blue and green (any analogous colours), because it's so harmonious.

You look lovely in pink. Wearing an outfit multiple time means you love it and that's a good thing. What a shame the shoes gave you blisters. That's happened to me so many times – the shoes feel really comfortable for about ten minutes then suddenly start to rub. Emma xxxwww.syle-splash.com

Thanks, Emma. Yes, bad shoes… And I try to be so careful when buying new shoes, taking my time, trying them on several times, and still it's a game of chance.
