I think I’ve come up with a sort of ‘uniform’ for hot weather: cropped trousers and a linen shirt. Comfortable, with enough sun protection, and about as smart casual as is humanly possible on a hot day. For me, at least.
It’s not that I particularly like long sleeves, and I have no need to hide my arms. Long sleeves are simply a practical way to protect my skin from the sun. I mean, look at me: to say I’m pale is an understatement… Yes, I burn easily, and I hate sun screen. I rather wear long sleeves and carry a sun umbrella when I go out. If I go out… I admit that on a very hot day I tend to stay indoors…
I guess I’m not a summer person. If summer means hot weather, that is.
So, you’ve seen a few variations of this ‘uniform’ already, and you might see a few more before the summer is over. I’m a strong believer in the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ school of thought. Or maybe I just find it too demanding to think about outfits when it’s hot. You know, when I feel as if my brain is melting…
Anyway, I think I like this version of my ‘summer uniform’ best, because of the colours. In general, light colours or neutrals don’t do me any favours (I’m pale so they tend to make me look like a ghost). I need colours that provide a bit of contrast next to my skin. So, wearing navy, or navy and white stripes, is my version of wearing neutrals.
And bright colours… Well, you know how they always say that there are right colours for everyone? That you can look old and tired if you wear the wrong colours whereas the right colours take years off your face? That is so true. Put something black (or any dark, muddy colour) around my face and I look as if I haven’t slept for a month… But I can wear bright colour. No, let’s rephrase that: bright colour is my best friend. And red, pink and fuchsia… I can’t go wrong with that. I can see it in photos, and so many people keep telling me that those are ‘my’ colours.
So, now you know why I like this particular outfit. Looking at these photos, I like what I see. And no, I don’t always like what I see in the mirror or in photos (I just keep it to myself). And I was also feeling comfortable. Sort of. Almost. Well, as comfortable as possible, given that it was way too hot for my liking, and I just wanted to get back indoors and stick my head in the refrigerator…

I love your outfit, Tiina, and I used to live in such kind of outfits myself – linen trousers and linen shirts! I still appreciate it very much, especially if I need to walk on a hot day. Like you, I prefer to stay indoors if it's really really hot (fortunately, doesn't happen often here), or be by the water… You really KNOW your best colors, they always look splendid on you! Here is to a comfortable and lovely Summer! 🙂
Thanks, Natalia. I find hot weather really challenging, and not just in terms of what to wear. Hot weather also makes me incredibly uncomfortable, and that only seems to be getting worse the older I get.Yes, my best colours… It's funny, everybody keeps telling me fuchsia is 'my colour', and I see it clearly on photos that it does seem to suit me. I guess it's one of those things you learn when you start blogging and see photos of yourself…
Your Summer outfit does fit all my criteria as well – natural fibre , comfortable and cool to wear. The colours are most definately your colours, I always like you in bright pinks and navy. Hope you mange to stay cool in the heat .
Thanks, Jill. It's strange, some colours just seem to be sort of a 'natural' match. I mean whenever I wear these colours (either on the blog or 'in real life') people tell me that these are 'my colours'…
I am totally the other way! Haha, I love the Heat and all I want to wear are dresses! That blouse is a beautiful color!
You must enjoy summer, then. And dresses, yes, that's definitely what you should be wearing now.
Very cool uniform. Meant in both ways.Greetje
