This is the third summer that I have been living in this dress. Literally: I’ve even wearing it several times a week, everywhere. Well, ‘everywhere’ in this case means both at home and on our walks in the neighbourhood, but you get my point.
This dress was my best friend during the summer heatwave, as it is the only thing I could bear wearing. Made of thick viscose, it is cool on the skin and sort of floats around me. And on (slightly) cooler evenings it was the obvious choice to wear on our after-work-walks as it requires minimal styling or thinking. Just pull it out of the closet, put it on and go.
It’s for the same reason I usually pack this dress whenever, or wherever, I travel: it’s my ‘breakfast outfit’. You see, I’m not a morning person, and especially on holiday I like to sleep as late as possible. Thus, if I had to shower, put on make up and get dressed before breakfast, I’d never get anything to eat. Instead, I just roll out of bed, put on this dress and go and have breakfast (usually just before the breakfast buffet closes), then go back to the room to shower and dress properly.

I’m loving this dress every time I see it, and totally agree that it’s a perfect hot weather uniform!. And it’s also a fabulously cool piece with a gorgeous print and a floaty shape which looks really elegant!. I think that wearing same dress frequently means that it was a good purchase!, something totally positive in my book!.
I’ve my own ‘breakfast dress’ which is also my ‘beach dress’, a massive kaftan or even a muumuu!. I like that it can be worn all day long and look more dressy if I add some accessories. It’s a beach to nightclub dress!.
I dislike when people wear their swimwear to have their breakfast in hotels. I know that breakfast is not supposed to be a formal occasion, but I don’t need to see all those armpits in the restaurant buffet. I’m really old fashioned.

Thanks! yes, this dress was a very good purchase: it’s very practical, and I’ve certainly worn it a lot. The cost-per-wear is minimal at this point, and I think this is one of those pieces I will keep forever.
Kaftans and muumuus have their place in a well-stocked wardrobe: how else would you get through summer heatwaves? I live in my kaftan dresses in summer, and it doesn’t get nearly as hot hot here as in your neck of the woods (but quite hot enough, can’t wait for cooler weather…)
Oh yes, swimwear at breakfast, it’s awful, I totally agree! There’s a certain type of tourist who thinks that all normal rules of politeness and decency somehow don’t apply on holiday. What is OK by the pool or on the beach is not OK in a restaurant, however informal. I’ve read that in some places they’ve started giving fines to tourists for inappropriate attire, which I think is fantastic. If they could just extend that policy to all the other anti-social behaviour some tourists engage in that would be great…
Brilliant fashion piece!!!! I am so inspired to find something similar that serves the same purpose– thanks so much for showing me the way, AGAIN!

Thank you! This is one of the most practical pieces I have in my wardrobe, and I literally live in it all summer.
Ah.. to sleep in! Can’t wait for my youngest to get a little older and for the others to not disturb me on vacation mornings. Until then I will be up early. I love the idea of an one and all outfit like your dress than I could roll out of bed and put and be looking put together at the buffet with little effort. The print makes it fun,

I feel for you… As an evening person, having to get up early in the morning is just torture. And now, having worked from home, and mostly in the afternoons or evenings, for so long, I’m wondering how I will ever get back to the ‘normal’ work routine…
It’s such a beautiful maxi dress on you and I like the burgundy bag with it! I love how effortless summer dressing is, just throw on a maxi dress that’s as pretty as this and you feel pulled together instantly! 🙂
Thank you for joining the #weekdaywearlinkup!
Hope that you had a lovely weekend 🙂

Thanks, Mica! I agree, simplicity is what we need in summer, especially when it’s hot.
I love this dress, the bold floral print is fabulous! I’m exactly the same on holiday, and usually my husband is impatient to get to breakfast so I just put on shorts and a vest or a maxi dress, then get dressed properly afterwards. Thanks for linking up!

Thanks, Emma! This is one of my favourite Marimekko prints (And probably the most clichéd one, too…).
