So, this is part 3 of my mix and match tableware series… Would you believe me if I said I originally planned to write just one post? Then I realised I had way too many pictures, and decided to have two posts instead. Then two somehow turned into three… But this is the last one, I promise.
It’s not that I’ve run out of tableware, though. I just think I’ve said everything I want to say about the topic. At least for now.
But, since the whole idea of this series of posts is to present tableware as sort of a capsule collection, or collections, let’s call this one ‘a mini-capsule in blue‘. Or something.
Actually, I used to have a lot of tableware in blue. But I donated all of it to the recycling centre. As I’d had it for decades, it’s probably no wonder I was a bit tired of it. Or maybe I just needed something new.
However, I kept what you see here: a couple of sushi plates I found in a sale long ago and two small Taika (by Iittala) bowls (I also have matching coffee mugs) that I once bought on a whim even though they didn’t match anything else I had. I do that sort of thing a lot, it seems, picking up something I like on a whim whether it matches what I already have or not…
So, about this table setting… I simply found everything I had in blue and put it together… Isn’t that what we usually do, in real life? I just gave it the ‘Instagram treatment‘ (= made it look as if it wasn’t haphazard but carefully planned).
Do you have matching tableware,
or do you just throw together a mismatched set of plates and bowls?

I love the way the pieces work together but are not matchy.

Thanks, Angela! Exactly; everything goes together and can be combined in many different ways. Sort of like with the separates in our wardrobes, the same idea. It doesn’t matter if you break something because you can always add something new to the mix.
