So, May is almost over… Time for a little review?
I was just thinking, with COVID 19 keeping us all more or less confined to our homes, I can’t be the only one feeling that every day feels exactly the same. In fact, I’m beginning to think that in a few years I probably won’t remember a single thing about this May…
So, I thought I should list what I’ve been doing, seeing and wearing, to record the events of this unusual spring. So, here goes:
What I’ve been doing:
In a word: Zooming. For work, of course; not for fun. I don’t think I would do it for fun. Why? Because, to put it simply, after work I’m all zoomed out.
OK, I’ve never been much of a social butterfly, but Zoom seems to completely kill my desire socialise with other people…
On the other hand, I’ve rediscovered my inner artist. My other blog, Dilettante Artist, has seen more action this month than it has seen in years. I’ve been very busy working on portraits (of myself, my husband, my late mother…). Here’s a little sample:
What I’ve been seeing:
Well, it’s spring. And this year, maybe more than ever before, I’ve had time to notice how nature reawakens after winter. Maybe it’s because we’ve spent so much time walking around our own neighbourhood, or maybe it’s because there’s simply nothing else to do. Besides taking photos and going for walks, that is.
Anyway… I’ve taken lots of photos of spring flowers and urban wildlife.
What I’ve been wearing:
OK, let’s forget about that… In sartorial terms, it’s been Groundhog Day on steroids. I’m beginning to think I’ve lost my mojo totally. Oh well, it will be summer soon, maybe I’ll get it back then.

What a beautiful portrait, your mother? I agree about zoom etc I just recently started face timing my daughter, I normally speak on the phone, she lives on the other side of the World but now I see she has gained so much weight I have to bite my tongue not to mention it. Then I realised what does she see when she looks at me, lol. Strange times.

Thank you Flora. Yes, the portrait is based on an old photo of my mother.
Oh dear, yes, Zoom (or FaceTime, whatever) definitely does not show people at their best: odd angles, and the camera adds 10 kilos…
Tiina, thanks for sharing your monthly recap. I am glad that you are getting to share your artistic passions as well on your art blog. We have been socializing with our neighbors now that things are easing up a bit and I have found that I am completely exhausted from too much socialization! I do prefer introversion most of the time!

I know! We’ve all been avoiding social contacts for so long that it feels weird to actually talk to people face to face. And you’re right, it’s exhausting! I’m exhausted from just talking to my students on Zoom these days…
