So, last Friday I went to see the annual Marimekko summer 2017 fashion show. The event is open to the public and held at the Esplanade park in the centre of Helsinki.
And these are some of the highlights of the show:
DRESSES
There were a lot of dresses (and skirts), of course, for summer. Now, I’m not a fan of the typical Marimekko style – boxy cuts and shapeless dresses – but I really liked the flowy fabrics in this show. And if I was tall and slender, I would snap up this dress with a cape immediately…
RETRO
This year Marimekko is re-introducing some iconic designs from the 60’s and the 70’s. I tried on the first dress a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it wasn’t very flattering on my curvy body. Which is a pity as I just love the 60’s fashion…
Naturally, there were a lot of prints:
And Black and White
A bit too much black, is you ask me…
And if you’d like to see more, Marimekko posted a short video clip on Instagram.

Thank you for these wonderfull pictures. Stunning prints.XO Tina
Marimekko is known for prints, and this year they also showed some of the great retro prints. I love the prints from the 60s, I wish they had more of them still in production.
What fun to see a live show. They really bring the pieces to life. I love the prints.I agree that most of these look like they were made for very tall thin women. bisousSuzanne
Yeah, I wish they made a few dresses for us curvy girls, too. I love these prints, and I have some Marimekko home textiles and kitchen ware, but clothes…
I remember this from the post from last year! Again a great fashion show, and how fantastic is the weather!
Yes, it was really the prefect weather for an open-air fashion show. The first day of summer, really.
I loved many of these prints, the green/gold is probably my most favorite. I would wear them, Tiina! With all my curves and bumps! 🙂
I love the prints, too. I just wish the dresses had a bit more waist definition, and a wider neckline..
I love prints. Especially when they are colorful. Nice picks. Thanks for joining the Top of the World Style linkup party.
Thanks, Nicole. Well, Marimekko certainly always has colourful prints. The home range is even better than the clothes.
I'm a big fan of their bold prints! Wish I could've been there! Thanks so much for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday! Have a wonderful holiday weekend!OXOXDawn Lucyhttp://fashionshouldbefun.com
I love the prints, too. This is an annual event, and open to public. They have 4 shows on one day, it's great.
