I went to see the annual Marimekko fashion show in the park on Friday. As usual, there were a lot of people, but I managed to find a spot next to the catwalk to take some pictures.
However, I’m not going to post every single outfit, just the highlights (= my favourites). And instead of posting just pictures of models, I’m going to include photos of some the artists performing at the event (since they were also wearing Marimekko s/s 2019 styles).
Marimekko s/s 2019 Fashion Show
For many people (myself included), Marimekko is first and foremost known for striped t-shirts. And since we can probably agree that I may be somewhat obsessed with stripes, I thought that might be a good place to start:
And I think most people also recognise the iconic Unikko (= poppy) print. It was first introduced in 1964 (which makes it older than I am). Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, had declared that Marimekko would never introduce floral patterns. So, as a protest, designer Maija Isola created an entire series of floral prints, including Unikko.
Fast forward to today, and Unikko is one of the most recognisable prints in the world, and still a standard feature of every Marimekko summer collection.
By the way, I have this kaftan dress. Or, rather, I have last year’s version (mine has some pale pink in addition to ink blue and white).
In the past few years, Marimekko has been reintroducing some retro prints and styles from its massive archive:
But there’s more to Marimekko than recycling retro prints; there are also new prints every year:
I hope you enjoyed my selection.

You can see a video of the show on Marimekko website, I put a link in my post. I saw the show twice (they always have 3-4 shows a few hours apart) to get good photos.
Love all the colors and prints! I too would have loved to watch that event. Arlene from NJ

Thanks, Ruth. Marimekko is known for colourful prints and loose dresses. Although this year there were a lot of jumpsuits, too.
Great collection. I can see you wear some of them and yes, I would love to have some of the dressess too! Thanks for sharing them at the Top of the World Style linkup party.
