It’s Time for Something Warmer…

how to wear a down jacket over 40

It was an unusually cold October afternoon

when these photos were taken. In other words, the perfect weather to test drive my new lightweight down jacket. Which is what I’ll probably be living in now that it’s November.

I know what you’re thinking: ‘not again, another jacket in blue’.  To be honest, there wasn’t a lot choice. There was the fire engine red, of course… But no, not very practical. Sure, I like red, but I prefer slightly more muted reds, or burgundy (why can’t I find a jacket in burgundy?!?). And of course there was black (hell, no), white (ditto), and a sort of army green (err… no). So, blue it is. Besides, it goes with anything. Or anything that I seem to be wearing these days…

casual fall stylehow to wear a down jacket

Well, like the rest of the world, I live in athleisure these days. And I’m beginning to think that maybe it’s time we stopped apologising for  it.

Life as we know it has changed. Whether that change is permanent remains to be seen. Nevertheless, we’ve been living in some version of ‘comfort wear’ for so long that I don’t believe we’re going to give it up anymore.

I’m just hoping it won’t be too long before fashion designers take notice.

Hello, any fashion people out there??? I just want to remind you that this is a unique business opportunity: we desperately need clothes that can take us from bed to conference calls (OK, I admit: been there, done that…) and make us look super stylish and elegant…

Totally agree about not apologising for our casual-athleisure style. Most people need no fuss these days, so some athleisure clothes are welcome.
Lovely coat, and lovely shade of blue, it goes with anything (including your cool accessories!). If you’re looking for a burgundy coat, I’d love to find something in red which doesn’t look cheap and shiny. I’m also bored of black coats everywhere, why they don’t make them in more colors?

      Thank you!
Yes, why is there always so much black everywhere? Especially when it comes to winter coats, I just don’t get it: can it get any more boring than black???

The jacket is beautiful! I’m not even a blue person!

Thanks, Natalie! Blue is my version of a neutral colour, I suppose…

Thank you! I love blue, too.

I am inspired to buy blue! I’m in the market for a light weight coat or jacket and will NOT fall into my old “playing it safe with black” routine. Thanks, Tiina!

Blue goes with anything. Or maybe it’s because my late mother mostly wore blue (or navy), and I got used to it as a sort of neutral background colour.
      Thanks!

Thanks! This is a very lightweight jacket: it’s perfect for now, but won’t be of much use once the temperature drops below freezing. But lucky for me, I have another (blue) coat for that…

TIna, you are so right that athleisure is big right now! I just ordered my puffy coat for the colder months, though for me a lightweight version does the trick. Thanks for joining Ada and me on Thursday Moda this week!

Yes, I think athleisure is here to stay, one way or another. I’m just hoping to find something with a more stylish vibe that looks less like gym wear.

What a cosy jacket, and such a great shade of blue! I know it will work really well for your cold weather! I like how you added a little extra colour and print to your outfit with the scarf too 🙂

I’ve still being wearing my normal clothes out the house – gotta wear them when I can, any excuse really, haha! But I have been wearing a lot more loungewear as I stay at home and work from home so much now. My loungewear is mostly pyjamas or old clothes that are no longer in a state to leave the house in, haha!

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you are having a nice weekend 🙂

      Thanks, Mica.
Staying mostly at home has really made me think that I need nicer loungewear: the old t-shirts and sloppy pyjamas need to go. This is still a work-in-progress, though…

I don’t think there is anything wrong with another blue coat. Especially a cute down coat to stay all warm and cozy in the frigid winter weather! It is a lovely shade of blue and you wear it well! I am at the point where I love to dress up and take pictures and then get back into my layers and layers of lounge clothes! But I still like the dress up part even if it is only for a short amount of time each day. Thanks for linking.

Thanks! This is a lightweight jacket, it’s perfect for now but won’t be much use once the temperature drops below freezing. But I have another, much thicker and warmer (blue) down coat for that…
