April showers…
To say that the weather has been unpredictable lately would an understatement. In the past week or so we’ve had warm and sunny days, followed by cold mornings with scenes of winter wonderland, which then turn into huge puddles by the afternoon. I suppose Mother Nature didn’t get the memo that it’s already April. As a result, ‘April showers’ can mean anything: rain, sleet or hail, depending on her mood…
Seriously, how are we supposed to know what to wear now?!?
I’ve been living in the same pair of old joggers for ever (or so it seems). I just keep changing the jacket I wear (warmer and thicker if the temperature is closer to 0°C and lighter if it’s closer to +10°C), hoping that the weather won’t change too drastically during our long walks…
This jacket is a bit longer and a lot lighter than the green camo jacket. It’s better for a bit warmer weather (in this case, +8°C), or for spring and summer.
Like everybody else, I’m shopping my own closet these days. Not that I was ever a big shopper, even back in the ‘old days‘, or what we used to call ‘normal life‘.
I prefer to buy less but buy better. In other words, I don’t mind spending a bit more money on my clothes, but I expect them to last and go with anything. And I genuinely believe a small wardrobe is better than a big one. Fewer options also mean less stress. And I want to be certain that I actually wear what I buy. Real estate is way too expensive (at least in this town) to be used to simply store stuff. Therefore, any item of clothing must earn its place in my wardrobe.
However, recently I’ve been fantasising about shopping. I’m making lists (in my head) of the items I need. For example, having nice, new athletic wear wouldn’t hurt. I mean the nice kind of athletic wear, of course; not the ratty old stuff I wear to the gym.
Actually, it’s not shopping itself that I miss. After all, I find shopping frustrating at best (and downright demoralising most of the time). I just want something new. A new dress perhaps. Or a bag. Just something that isn’t what I wear everyday now, in this era of great uncertainty that we euphemistically call ‘the new normal’.
Or maybe it’s simply warmer weather that I miss. So that I could finally put all my cold(er) weather clothes away, and put on something I haven’t worn for a long time. That would be new, in a way.
Now, if Mother Nature could just decide what she wants…

I have been shopping but I am trying to do a good job about thinking clearly about my purchases and not impulse buyi. I am going to try to find things on Poshmark too first before looking to Amazon and other places.

Actually, impulse shopping works for me: I never regret my impulse buys. But if I go looking for something, it’s hopeless; I never find anything I want. So, I try to keep a mental list of what I need / want, and if I happen to see something nice, I try to get it then and there.
I know! Going for something specific can sometimes be very difficult which is why I haven’t bought and found any dresses this past year: can’t find something that I like and fits right.
Love your comfy and cool style and how you style it with fab accessories, scarves, sunnies. You rock!
And I’m also feeling that spring is taking forever to bloom properly. Rain and 10ºC here in the Sunny Spain!.

Thank you! You’re so kind.
Spring is finally here: the temperature is in double digits, lots of sunshine, no more snow or sleet. Another week or two and all the trees will have leaves. In other words, it’s practically summer! And the days are getting longer, too: sunset around 9pm, sunrise well before 6am already, fantastic!
I would love to be walking in the woods right now, it looks so peaceful there. The temperature is changeable here in the UK – warm in the sun but cold in the shade. I’ve been wearing everything from holiday clothes to woollen ponchos! I love your casual, comfy outfit. Thanks for linking up!

Thanks, Emma.
The weather was quite strange here, too, for a while. But it’s beginning to look like spring: sunny and warm(er). I would love to be by he sea…
This wooded area looks so relaxing and peaceful. Thats what I enjoy about the woods. I will be shopping my closet for the next few months. Love the scarf against the pine green jacket. Just wanting sunnier days to be outside!

There are lots of forests around here, just a 10-15 min walk away. But at this point I’m beginning to miss the city streets a bit…
Hi I live in a largish town. Lots of parks around but they are now all closed to the public. So we have been walking around our neighborhood a bit, just to get some air and exercise. It’s not very warm here for this time of year. Every morning it’s quite cold and it warms up a bit by afternoon but it’s been rainy (as usual for April) and I’ve been avoiding it. That’s my new normal. Wish I had a nice forest to take a walk in right now! I’m sure it’s very relaxing and puts you in a good mood. Better days ahead? Hope so! Every time I want to complain, I think of Anne Frank cooped up with her family for 2 years in an attic. Not even able to go outside for some sun or air. So I quit my complaining and moaning and just get on with it. Take care of yourself and enjoy your beautiful surroundings! Arlene from NJ

Yes, you’re right: putting things in perspective helps.
We’ve lived in this neighbourhood for 20 years, but never really explored it. Before, my ‘walks’ consisted of getting to and from the railway station… Yesterday we discovered there’s a riding school nearby, I had no idea. You learn something new every day if you just keep your eyes (and mind) open, I suppose.
Living in Nice and it’s the coldest place in France, unbelievable. I read today that people are showering less and changing their clothes less at the moment. Not chez nous I hasten to add. I really don’t need more clothes but we seem to be eating a lot so I may need bigger clothes by the end of the lockdown.

I hope it gets warmer there soon.
I guess it’s easy to get sloppy about dressing up and grooming if you have nowhere to go (I admit to having been guilty of that, too, at times). And I can certainly relate to the fear of needing bigger clothes soon! Too many take-aways and too little exercise, never a good combination.
It really shows that you curate your wardrobe. All pieces work well with each other color and style wise. I also adore your umbrella collection. Of course, they are all unique and give your looks the final touch. Do I have to say that this collection is also well edited? You have quite a unique personal style. One doesn’t need to see your face, one can recognize you by the way you dress! I mean that as a compliment.

Thanks Nicole. I try my best to curate my wardrobe; with limited storage space, it’s necessary. But I also have a few odds and ends that don’t seem to go with anything else but that I still choose to keep nevertheless. Trust me, a well edited wardrobe is a work-in-progress, and never-ending…
That looks like a great jacket and I love the print mix of the leopard print scarf with the stripes! I like to wear my scarves like this a lot too! 🙂
Sometimes it’s so nice to get new things in our wardrobes! I am finding I don’t have the urge to shop much but I am sure that will change when we can go outside again, haha!
Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!
Hope your week is off to a good start 🙂

Thanks, Mica!
I think my urge to go shopping is more a reflection of wishing that things would get back to normal than anything else. You know, the small, mundane pleasures that we miss now…
This looks super together and I love the scarf Tiina. Thanks for adding to the #linkup Jacqui x

Thanks, Jacqui! Its as still quite cold (around 8 degrees) when these pictures were taken, so a cashmere scarf was necessary.
