So, finally, the outfit I was wearing on New Year’s Eve…
Yes, this is what I decided to wear to that big, fancy, 7 course dinner on New Year’s Eve. After I decided that the high-waisted black trousers would just make me feel uncomfortable, I rushed back to the hotel room to change. Lucky for me, the fancy dinner was in our hotel, so a quick change of clothes was easy.
However, as I had a very limited travel wardrobe, and hardly anything (besides the black high-waisted trousers and this silk kimono) that could be described as ‘formal’, I had to improvise. So, this is not a ‘plan B‘ outfit but rather a ‘let’s just throw something together in 5 minutes and see what happens‘ outfit…
I paired the kimono with a simple t-shirt and the wide-leg polka dot trousers you’ve seen featured on the blog a million times. I know, this is a rather casual combination, but I thought that the kimono is the statement piece in this outfit, elevating it to the next level. And I was counting on real pearls and a Chanel bag to add a little sophistication, giving the outfit a ‘bohemian chic’ vibe…
Outfit details:
kimono: Klaus Haapaniemi / t-shirt: Vila (old) / trousers: Zara (old) /
shoes: Clarks (old) / sunglasses: Woobs / bag: Chanel
location: hotel Quinta da Casa Branca (Funchal, Madeira)

Which one is favourite, this outfit, or the kimono and black trousers combo?

I think that your kimono is so versatile and stunning that you can wear it in lots of different combos and it always looks gorgeous!. I liked the cool and elegant vibe of a pair of black trousers, but the polka dots trousers are particularly lovely and have a nice drapey too, so they look more interesting and unexpected. And comfort is first!

Thanks! Believe it or not, I always find this kimono a bit of a challenge to style, even though I really love it. This was my first attempt at ‘thinking outside the box’, though, and I’m surprised how well it worked.
This version of the outfit is more fun but I think I like it with the black trousers best. I think that comfort is key though!

Oh yes, comfort is key, absolutely! I prefer the black trousers, though…
Yup, nailed it – I wouldn’t have expected this to work but it does

Thanks, Michelle! It’s one of my favourite pieces, too.
Great mix of print. These pants with dots are sp special as they seem not to be in a regular pattern like polka dots. Love them on you. Great look.

Thanks, Nicole. I’ve had these trousers for a long time, and they’re starting to show some wear and tear. But I hesitate to get rid of them, mainly because I find the floaty wide-leg style so flattering.
Next time wear what is comfortable, skip the dinner and order room service 🙂

Ha ha! Yes, room service would be my first choice, too…
Your kimono is beautiful! You definitely want to be comfortable on holiday…especially for a seven course dinner! I found people dress quite casually in Funchal anyway – I felt way overdressed when I went out one evening in a long black dress. Thanks for linking up!

Thanks, Emma! yes, comfort is everything, and it was a really big dinner! Yes, people dress quite casually in Funchal (almost as casually as we dress in Finland, so I never feel overdressed there), but I wanted to make an effort for change.
it’s such a beautiful kimono, however you wear it! it’s so nice with the burgundy and a fun print mix with the polka dots here 🙂
Hope that your week is off to a good start! We had a relaxing day today with the public holiday 🙂 Thanks for joining the weekday wear link up!
