Holiday Memories

Marimekko kaftan

I’m back!

Back from my holiday in Madeira, back home in Finland, back blogging, and (soon) back to work. I feel rested and relaxed (to some extent) and ready to tackle new challenges (maybe). To be honest, I could have used another 2 weeks of downtime. But I also have to make a living. So, here we are.

I miss Madeira already. So, in order to hang on to that wonderful, relaxed holiday glow, I will be posting a few holiday pictures (and outfits) over the next few weeks. Which is just as well, given that the weather in Finland this time of the year is not exactly conducive to styling outdoor photo shoots.

Perhaps you have been following my #traveldiary on my ‘online photo journal’ (@moments_revisited) and already know that I don’t really go for typical touristy photos. Instead, I post all sorts of random pictures, about whatever happens to catch my eye. If I had to describe my #traveldiary photos (of whatever destination), I would say they’re more evocative than informative. That’s what Instagram means to me: challenging the right side of the brain (the more artistic, creative side) and giving my over-analytical mind a badly-needed rest.

So, this is what these photos are:  a glimpse of an emotion, a fleeting moment in time. Or what I remember when I think of Madeira.

It is beautiful, now wonder you want to hold on to it! Kids are going back to school in a couple days so we will be back to a routine. We do have several breaks and small trips to look forward to and I am still hoping for some snow!

Thank you! Yes, the scenery is really beautiful there.
Ah, back to routine… I’m currently trying to decide whether that’s a blessing or a curse. Maybe a little bit of both. But you’re right, it’s nice to have something to look forward to.

Thanks! I like taking photos (that’s why I have 3 instagram accounts…), I find I I need a creative activity where I don’t have to think, or overthink everything.

Thanks, Paula. Yes, I’m lucky, especially since this was probably our 7th or 8th time in Madeira. We still love it.

Lucky you, I love Madeira! My dad’s been there since mid December – he has an apartment in Funchal. It’s such a beautiful island and a great climate…I want to live there! I love your dress!

Beautiful pictures! I love finding beautiful scenery to shoot while on a vacation. I would love to do a photo wall someday. Glad you had a restful time. Thanks for joining Style Six!

Thanks, Shelly! A photo wall sounds tempting, but it might be difficult to choose just a few photos. I usually make a photo book every year (like my own ‘coffee table book’, the highlights of the year, in a way) as a present for my husband.

Thanks, Jess. Madeira is called the flowers island, so there are lots of flowers and plants, even in winter.
The dress is my favourite piece for a holiday, I absolutely love it. It’s made of viscose, so it’s low-maintenance, too.
