I’m tired of my winter clothes, so this is another ‘transitional look’: a wool coat and a lighter dress. And a really warm cashmere scarf because it was actually quite cold when we took these photos (-4 °C to be exact).
Unlike most of the outfits I feature on the blog, this one was put together solely for this post. And I couldn’t have been more eager to get back home and take it off. But that had nothing to do with the outfit. Well, in a sense it did; I was freezing…
The thing is, I’ve been waiting for warmer weather so I could try this particular combination. And for a while it looked as if spring might be on its way. And then it got colder again… Hey, this is Finland, and it’s early March; it may start snowing again tomorrow!
Anyway, about the outfit…
Yes, I had this crazy idea of pairing this lightweight, floaty dress with edgy, black accessories. I thought the result would be either a super cool 90’s inspired look (sort of grown-up version of Gen X Grunge, or something) or a complete mess (you know, when a minimalist tries to pass for a maximalist…)
But to be honest, I don’t know what to think. Does it work? Well… I don’t think this dress is me. I mean, I don’t dislike it. But I don’t love it, either. And here the dress is the only item that feels a bit, oh I don’t know, not me, if you know what I mean.
But hey, it was an experiment. Experiments are good, right? Let me know what you think in the comments, OK?
Outfit details:
coat: Sand / dress: Andiata / shoes: Nero Giardini /
bag: Chanel / sunglasses: Prada
So, what do you think, is this outfit a hit or a miss?

PS: I have been having a lot of problems with Bloglovin lately. Again. It takes about 2 days for any of my posts to appear on the Bloglovin feed, and sometimes they miss a post altogether. I keep sending Blogloving (increasingly annoyed and frustrated) emails, asking them to fix the problem, but they don’t seem to care. I always get a standard, automated reply, but nothing changes, and nobody ever gets in touch with me. It’s as if they don’t care. Or as if there’s nobody (a real person, I mean) to read the so-called ‘feedback’ they get. If you follow this blog on Blogloving, and if it takes about 2 days for you to get the latest post on your feed, could you give them some feedback, too?

I know exactly what you mean Tiina. Not sure if it is the floral itself or the colours on you or just a matter of such a different look on you . I always like the stronger accessories with florals on others but not on me. Hope your Spring arrives in due course.

Yes, maybe it’s just that it’s ‘new’, on me, and I’m not used to it. And the florals… I do wear some floral prints, but they tend to be more modern, or almost abstract. Maybe the sis just a bit too traditional for my taste.
I think your dress and coat look great together. I know how you feel about winter and how long it lasts and so I get why you are sick and tired of winter clothes and coats. If the dress makes you feel good, and makes you feel like Spring is almost here, go for it! Arlene from NJ

Thanks, Arlene! I think the problem with this dress is that I can’t decide whether I like it or not. It’s pretty and nice, but somehow it makes me feel as if I’m wearing a costume. The coat, on the other hand, is just my style.
I think it is great to experiment! I know I would not have experiemented as much if it werent for blogging. I have a pair of combat boots that are my absolute favorites and I love the mix with florals. I think it looks cool! I like the mix of patterns too! Boy, you are a trooper in the cold too! I am a big baby!

Thanks, Jessica! Yes, experimenting is good, and it also helps you determine is something works for you or not. And something about this dress just doesn’t work…
I love it, Tiina! Definitely a hit with me! I am also tired of winter (it was too long and unusually cold here this year), but since it got warmer, I started feeling more inspiration again.

Thanks, Natalia! We’ve been having warmer days followed by more snow/sleet and colder weather. It’s nothing unusual for March, but it makes me even more tired of winter. I can’t wait for spring to finally arrive.
I think that this outfit looks like spring is coming, I love your coat and love the mixed prints, but I totally understand the ‘not me’ feeling when you try a new combo. It happens frequently to me: sometimes it takes a time to adjust it to my own style, sometimes I give it another try and change accessories, shoes or whatever. Experiments make us learn a lot!
And I admire that you’ve braved those freezing temperatures! in sheer tights!!

Thanks! It’s not the new combo as such; it’s this dress. The pattern is very ‘traditional’, and it feels somehow ‘not me’. Oh well, maybe I’ll get used to it. After all, I bought it; I must have liked it at least a bit.
Tiina, I actually quite like this combination! It is something I would be very comfortable wearing. However, my climate in northern NY seems to be the same as Finland. It is too cold for anything but jeans and a million layers still. I all too often wear an outfit with the intention of keeping it on all day, take the photos, and realize I am freezing and need to change. I say give the dress a second try and see what happens. If you still are not much liking it, then maybe it really just isn’t for you. By the way, this post will be featured on tomorrow’s #SpreadTheKindness Link Up.

I know what you mean… I’m fantasising about wearing something nice, yet I wear the same old cords or jeans every day. By now I want to burn all my winter clothes…
Thanks for the feature!
Great coat Tiina, thanks for sharing on #chicandstylish thisweek. Jacqui Mummabstylish

Thanks, Jacqui. it’s one of my favourite coats, and I’m looking forward to a bit warmer weather so I could wear it more often.
