It’s that time of the year again…
I’m talking about the annual Marimekko spring/summer fashion show in the park. Yes, I went to see it, and yes, I took some photos. And of course I’m posting some of the highlights here. The theme of the show was ‘wildflowers’.
Green seems to be the colour of the season:
However, there was a lot of black, or black and white, too:
And some orange, peach, pink and brown tones:
I liked this broderie anglaise top:
And of course there were many versions of the iconic poppy print (which was first introduced in 1964).
My favourite was this one:
I hope you enjoyed my selection!

Oooo love the green and the blue! I have never gotten to go to a fashion show. This sounds so fun.

This is an annual event, it’s a free-for-all fashion show in the local park opposite Marimekko flagship store. Of course, because of Covid, we haven’t had the event for the past 2 years, which made this one extra special.
Fun! Thanks for sharing! I like that these are things people would actually wear.

The essence of Marimekko has always been wearability. And recently they’ve embraced diversity in casting the models, too: there were different ages and body types, just like the people who buy the clothes.
Great fabric designs. Not easy to reinvent yourself but they did and stayed true to their iconic brand. IMHO

That’s true. And the iconic Unikko / Poppy pattern is now reinvented every year. It has practically become the symbol of the brand, which is ironic because (before it was introduced in 1964) the founder and owner of the brand had declared that Marimekko would never include floral patterns…
I love Marimekko prints – it was through your blog that I discovered them! I hope all is well with you xxx

Thanks, I’m fine. I love some of the prints, too. I once counted how many Unikko / Poppy print items I had, and I came to the conclusion that perhaps I should look for other prints for change.
These prints are perfect for summers. All of the colors are soothing to my eyes. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks!
How did it miss this post?! I adore Marimekko, so I enjoy seeing their new collection.
Did you end up splurging on a new piece? Or was it enough to see and be inspired?

I didn’t get anything new this time as these are not really my colours. I do have a few old Marimekko dresses, though.
I’m glad you went to the Marimekko fashion show in the park this year. I always enjoy seeing what trends are coming up and get the chance to wrap up the season in style. I liked your blog post on the Marimekko fashion show. I especially liked the pictures you shared of the show.
