I don’t do black and white…
It is a classic, striking combo, of course, but it really doesn’t do much for me. It’s not that I don’t like black and white, I do, it just looks a bit blah on me. And that’s why I don’t do black and white. Except when I’m faking it.
How do you fake black and white?
It’s easy: replace one of the black items with something in grey, and sneak in a little bit of colour somewhere, e.g. the pink leopard print scarf here. As long as the bit of colour is in muted tones, the overall impression is that you’re wearing black and white…
I’m wearing:
leather jacket: Karen Millen (old, previously featured HERE and HERE) / trousers: Marks and Spencer / t-shirt: PBO / bag and sunglasses: Chanel /shoes: Clarks / scarf: old
What do you think, did I manage to fake black and white convincingly here?

The coloured scarf is a very nice touch! With the bright lipstick it frames your face without loosing the black and white koncept. This is a new trick that I'll have to test. Usually I wear black and cream as the softer white seems work better with my skin tone, but with room for improvement 🙂
Thanks, Tine. As I'm quite pale, the red lipstick is sort of insurance to keep me from getting totally invisible when wearing black… I usually also go for softer off-white instead of pure white, but cream is sometimes a bit too yellow for my skin. And it's amazing how easy it is to see on photos that white is really not one of my best colours…
Great blog, Tina. I am trying to wear more colourful items and not to get so stuck in a rut with fashion, so your ideas will be very useful.
Thanks, Biddy, I'm glad you stopped by!
Great casual jacket, and beautiful scarf around her neck.
Thanks, Josep-Maria.
You have a wonderful collection of leather jackets. bisousSuzanne
Thanks, Suzanne!
The scarf adds a great pop of color along with your red lipstick. I love wearing black and white, it just feels so classic to me.Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!Alicewww.happinessatmidlife.com
Thanks, Alice. I guess I need that pop of colour, for the black and white to work at all.
Your moto jacket is too cool with that fun scarf! I love black and white, but I typically wear all white with black accessories for a little contrast.
Thanks, Elizabeth! All white with black accessories looks so classy, I would wear that, too, if I wasn't so pale.
What a great jacket! Your scarf is so pretty and is the perfect pop of color! Thanks for linking up with Thursday Fashion Files!JillDoused In Pink
Thanks, Jill!
I love the combo and the added color with your scarf!jess xxwww.elegantlydressedandstylish.com
Thanks, Jessica! You know me, there has to be a little bit of colour…
I like the idea of faking it. I used to think that (pitch) black and (stark) white are too harsh on me, so I also faked it with cream and espresso combinations – AND by adding a bright color! Look at this post, that's exactly what I've done – http://inthewriterscloset.blogspot.com/2014/05/not-with-chalk-but-with-soul.html Great minds think alike? 🙂 xxx
Yes, black and white can be a bit harsh, and then it's good to leran to fake the same effect with other dark colours which are a bit kinder to pale skin. Your post is a great example of this.
And you look cool and edgy – such a rocker woman! "Where is my motorcycle?"
Yeah, I'm faking that, too: looking cool, I mean…
The hot pink scarf pumps up the volume! Cute look, Tiina! Thanks so much for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday!OXOXDawn Lucyhttp://fashionshouldbefun.blogspot.com
