So, I went shopping…
I’d been eyeing this fabulous silk kimono for a few months, tried it on about half a dozen times, and told myself time after time that I have nothing to wear with it, and the colours are a bit challenging to say the least (read: not blue, red or pink). And yet I kept going back to the shop, try it on, talk some sense to myself (to no avail) etc etc…
And then I just bought it.
Yes, a black silk kimono. A bit over my budget, too. OK, a lot over my budget, whatever… It was a birthday present, from me to myself. And I will wear it forever. With everything.
OK, maybe not with everything, but a lot.
What on earth am I going to wear with this kimono??? More to the point, when and where am I going to wear it???
I consider myself a rational shopper, almost to the point of being boring (Hello, have you seen my collection of striped t-shirts?!?)
But I think there is something my very rational and functional wardrobe lacks: something absolutely fabulous, luxurious and frivolous. I need more fabulousness and fun in my life! And yes, I know you can’t buy that. But a fab silk kimono is a good start in the right direction, nevertheless.
Why? How should I know! I’m just trying to justify a totally absurd purchase to myself, and that sounded smart. You know, as if it makes sense. Sort of…
And you know what? I love this silk kimono. It feels fabulous on my skin…
Outfit details:
silk kimono: Klaus Haapaniemi / t-shirt: Zadig & Voltaire (old) / belt: & Other Stories
jeans: Opus (old) / bag: Lancel (old) / sandals: Ugg / sunglasses: Prada
So, any ideas? What should I wear this kimono with?
Tiina

Wear it with everything – it is truly gorgeous, and you look so happy wearing it. Congratulations on treating yourself to something beautiful, just because. xox-Pattihttp://notdeadyetstyle.com
Thanks, Patti. well, I thought that maybe this is one of those truly classic pieces that will last forever…
Whoah, that is one seriously stellar piece and it's clear that it will be loved and loved and loved and worn with everything. It's a neutral piece, what is known in the biz as "glamour neutral" – I just made that up of course. I'm glad you bought this; you look stunning in it.
Thanks, Melanie. "Glamour neutral", I love that! I'ms o going to use that every time I see something fabulous that I just have to get even though I have no use for it.
I think it's brilliant that you bought something for your birthday that you just couldn't resist. It's good for a fashionistas soul to purchase out of passion every now and then! xx
You're such an enabler! Passion purchase, I need more of that! Thanks!
wowww, what a Fabulous piece (with a Capital F!). I'm glad that you got it and glad that you're loving it and planning to wear it with everything!, totally supporting fabulousness and fun!I think that those colors would match anything!besos
Thanks! Well, as I had been eyeing this piece for a long time, and it's a real quality piece in silk, I'm going to treat it as the foundation of my new Fabulous Wardrobe (read: I need tons of new stuff to wear with this one)
Your kimono is certainly fabulous , you can and will wear it with just about everything. Not only does it look wonderful , it makes you feel the same. What I like about this kimono is its length , not too long so you are tripping over it and also so good with pants. Can I remember you in a kimono a while ago Tiina ? Enjoy wearing your birthday treat.
Thanks, Jill. yes, the length is perfect. It's just a little bit too short to be worn as a dress (as my dresses have to hit my knees), but long enough to be worn as a lightweight coat over a dress, maybe. And your memory is correct: I actually have two other kimonos (both have been featured on the blog more than once). One is a black and red/pink short kimono by Mango that I've had for years, and the other is a long red antique kimono (almost a 100 years old) that I bought on a whim…
That is a lovely kimono! You can wear it on all sorts of occasions at parties, to the office, at weekends… If you want to wear it as a dress you could wear a lightweight slip dress underneath, in the right length. With some sort of belt, maybe an obi, it would be really elegant. Anyway, it's so cool with jeans and a t-shirt, and those Pradas! Great buy!
Thanks! Yes, and obi belt, that's definitely on my shopping list. And a dress to go with the kimono, too. Thanks for confirming my idea that this is go-with-anything piece, makes it seem a bit less extravagant purchase…
Oh Tiina, I love the elegant bird print and colors on your kimono! gorgeous. I am sure you will find things to wear with this.. a jeans and tee works quite well. Wonderful to treat yourself for your Birthday to a fun splurge once in awhile. love it. thanks for linking!jess xxwww.elegantlydressedandstylish.com
Thanks, Jessica.
Gorgeous garment and beautifully worn !I can see you wear this over a dress, as is or belted. Also with black trousers and a silk cami and even with shorts.
Thank you, Lorena! Black trousers are definitely on my shopping list, but shorts… Hmm, maybe Bermuda shorts?
Ever such a pretty garment, really beautiful. Worth the investment. Enjoy this frivolous purchase.Greetje
Thanks, Greetje!
This isn absolutely glorious and I'm so glad you got it – it looks wonderful on you and it is so good to give in to passion! I think that burnt orange colour looks gorgeous with strong pinks such as you wear a good deal; perhaps try it over some of your pink dresses? And if that much colour is a bit too shocking to you, just wait a little while and try again – on a second consideration, you might find you like to!
Hmm, pink… An interesting idea, I need to think about it. Thanks!
