Dress for the weather

It’s getting colder…

Actually, it has been quite warm these past few days. But when these pictures were taken (about a week ago), it was quite cold. Or windy. A bit of both. At least on the little island where we shot these photos. Look! I’m wearing gloves!

Whatever…

It will be getting colder, sooner or later. And I’m prepared. Did you hear that, Mother Nature? Hah! You won’t catch me off guard this time!

Yes, I’m wearing a parka. And yes, I would wear it in the city, and to work. And yes, it’s perfectly OK. And guess what? Everybody else is wearing a  parka, too.

I live in Finland, and we dress for real life here.

camo parka for autumn

I know, those classic wool coats you see in fashion magazines are so stylish, perfect for that urban city slick look. So sophisticated and glamorous. And warm and luxurious… on a clear, sunny day. Which probably occurs once in a blue moon… Most of the time they’re totally useless. In my world, anyway.

Makia parka

You need something a bit more hard-core when the temperature drops close to freezing, and Mother Nature decides to bombard  you with rain, sleet, hail or any combination of the above.

This parka will  keep me warm and dry while I’m waiting for the train/bus in the morning (I don’t have a car: never needed one as public transportation is great here).

And look, this parka even has a hood! So, I might get to work without getting my hair all messy and frizzy (of yes, keep dreaming, Tiina…)

You’re so right on dressing for Real Life!. Wool coats are cute, but even in our warm climate I can wear them only for a few days. On the contrary, a parka does a perfect Winter coat and yours totally rocks!.
And I really love your boots!

Thank you! Yes, there’s no avoiding real life, I’m afraid. And as we’re now entering the nasty phase of autumn (colder, rainier etc), I had to get outerwear to match the weather. Dreading winter already, though…

I love your attitude! It would be crazy to see you standing there in a jumpsuit and heels being blown around in the ocean winds! You wear your Parka so well and look fabulous xx Maria

Ha, ha, that would be funny! I can just picture myself trying to get on and off the shuttle boat (to the island) on heels, that would be quite a challenge. Especially as I can’t even walk on heels on an even ground…
      Thanks, Maria!

Anything worn with attitude looks fabulous – and you do wear this with style. Real life wins!

Thanks, Melanie! Well, living in in a cold climate ensures there’s no escaping real life, I guess.

Thanks, Nicole. It wasn’t nearly as windy or cold on the mainland, and I was beginning to think I was wearing way too much. But as soon as we got on the island I was so glad I was wearing a parka, and I was even wishing I’d taken thicker gloves!
