Dear Skirt…

how to wear a leather skirt over 50

Dear skirt

I know I’m demanding. OK, fine, I’m a bit of a diva, you’re right. But I have needs.

What can I say? Women are like that: needy bitches, never happy, get over it. Besides, it ‘s your job to make me happy. I paid a lot of money for you, and I want to get my money’s worth. So, stop whining and start delivering.

This is how it’s going to be: you will work hard to make me the sexiest, most stylish diva ever, and I will see to it that you get taken out for a spin every once in a while. Sounds fair? Good!

Right, let’s get down to business.

I want you to hug me. Tight.

No, a bit higher, around my waist. Now, wrap yourself around me like you mean it. That’s it, perfect!

Oh no, don’t even think about it! I said no sliding down! No riding up towards my armpits, either. Listen, a girl wants to be hugged in a very special way… Yes, that’s it: hold me in…

Oh yes… YES! You fit me like a glove…

I like the idea beneath this post. You may not realize how truly special the relation is between a woman and her skirt. I say this because, after a lifetime of wearing skirts, women get used to how they fit (or don't). As a new wearer of skirts, my perspective is different: a garment that hugs the body with no other means of staying in place is very precarious. Men have no analog for it. I'm really and deeply impressed at how women manage to wear skirts. It's a marvel of engineering.

There's no mystery to it, really: a skirt has to fit at the waist and at the hips. It sounds simple, and it is. Yet, most of the skirts in shops do not fit me, my waist-hip ratio is too big for modern cuts. But I suppose any woman with an hourglass figure has the same problem: if you can squeeze your bum into the garment, the waist is way too big. And if the waist fits, there's no way in hell your bum is going to fit… So, finding a pencil skirt that fits both the waist and the hips is like finding the Holy Grail or something.

Thanks, Patti. I just wish I could educate fashion designers the same way: I would love to find more skirts that fit an hourglass figure.

Must be the teacher in you but the skirt listened and performed to perfection and I am sure will continue to do so . A leather skirt is always an investment but can be worn so many ways and I really like your styling here.

I love a high-waisted skirt (when it actually fits me properly) because it stays put. This is a bit unusual styling for me, though, tucking in the shirt.

Nice to see "leather weather" is upon us once again and Ladies like yourself are wearing it and doing so very well I might add. Loved the way you wrote this post and that skirt can be thankful that it was not a student in earlier years or it might have received the cane for not obeying ;)Have a great day and stay wrapped in that perfect fitting skirt !!

Dear Tiina, that is a fun and funny letter to your dear skirt. And what a fabulous leather skirt it is, it hugs you at the right places. I just recently purchased a similar faux leather skirt (though it looks like real leather) and I cannot wait to wear it. Welcome by on Thursday and linkup, beautiful. Thanks.

Ha, ha, well if being a diva means plain speaking and stating your needs then you diva away! I couldn't agree more. Gad I hate it when skirts ride up and worse when they ride up and twist and the back ends up at the front! That's one helluva skirt, Tiina – great find and the boden top is just divine with it.https://petitesilvervixen.blogspot.co.uk/

Thanks, so sweet of you. I've only been wearing skirts for the past couple of years (it's so difficult to find a skirt that fits properly), I used to favour dresses.

Thanks, Ruth. I prefer high-waisted skirts, they fit me better. I also ha a black leather skirt, but I thought brown would be a softer take on the look.

Dear Tiina, I am an Italian man (33) that like leather and you are perfect in that skirt. It is close to your hips and your belly. if I met you I would flirt you. I hope my comment doesn’t offend you.
