Oh hello, long time, huh?

I know, I said I’d be back in a couple of weeks, and now it’s been… well, a bit longer than that. What can I say? Moving is hell, but I’m sure you know that.

Besides, I’ve been living in joggers (i.e. what I’m wearing here) for the past few weeks. Perhaps longer. Forever, or at least that’s how it feels like.

Then again, there’s not much incentive to get dressed up just to continue unpacking all the junk I don’t even remember buying and desperately just want to get rid of…

Yes, I’m decluttering again… Of course it would make more sense to declutter before moving house. Which is exactly what I did. Or I thought I did. Seriously, the local recycling centre is very well stocked now, thanks to my almost daily visits… Yet, I still seem to have way more stuff than I need. Or want.

So, that’s what I’ve been doing for the past few weeks (besides working, that is): trying to decide where to store all the stuff I may or may not need or want. And given that we moved into a bigger flat, it seems like an odd problem to have.

However, while we gained an extra room (a.k.a ‘the study‘, at the moment reserved for Zoom calls and working from home), we didn’t really gain more closet space. If anything, we have less closet space. Which is OK, or will be, in the long run, as my goal is to declutter and have less stuff. In the meantime, I just have a mini nervous breakdown every time I open another cardboard box …

But let’s talk about something positive. I really like this area: I’ve always wanted to live by the sea. And I’ve always wanted to live in southern Helsinki. Some dreams do come true, it seems.

No, we don’t have a sea view, but as this is an island, the sea is close enough. And there are enough parks nearby for Professor M to feel at home, too. Unlike me, he actually enjoyed living in the suburbs, and he used to drag me along for endless walks in the ‘countryside’ (he’s German: in his eyes, Finnish suburbia is practically rural).

But what does the new flat look like? I know you’re curious, but there’s still some decorating to be done (and too many cardboard boxes to unpack). And of course I will post some pictures, in due course.  But for now, I’ll just leave you with this little teaser, to give you an idea of the ‘new look‘:

new decor

Do you change the decor when you move?
Or do you try to recreate the old familiar ‘look’ in the new flat?

I hope you’ll enjoy living in your new flat. Living near water is a must for us it’s so relaxing to walk by a river or the sea. We don’t change our decor much as we have had a lot of our furniture for many years and there are some colours we always return to just like our clothes, regardless of fashion. Love your lamp.

Oh, I’m sure I’ll like it here.
I love the sea, too, especially in summer. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to live near the sea., so this is perfect.

Oh, a great teaser! That is an awesome lamp! I remember really liking your decorating style in your other appartment so I can’t wait to see more! Hope the boxes get unpacked without too much mental pain =)

Thanks! Yes, It’s quite a stunner. But decorating is so frustrating, I don’t actually enjoy it very much. I just want to get everything done, as soon as possible.

Hey, if you moved in only weeks ago and have only few boxes not undone, that is superb. We moved in five years ago and still have some boxes around unpacked. Anyways I hope the new flat of yours is great, at least the surroundings seem to be nice. -q

Oh, I love this area! I’m just tired of the clutter; I’ve been living with dozens of cardboard boxes all over the place for months now (I started packing in October), and it’s starting to get on my nerves.

Thanks! And yes, that’s how I feel: I just want everything to ‘be ready’, right now. Or some fairy godmother or decorating genie to sort out everything while I sleep…

Hi Tiina, so nice to see you back! It looks like a beautiful place to live right near the sea. And I admire your diligence in decluttering. I am not so good at those things! I look forward to seeing more photos of the new flat once you are completely settled in! Thanks for linking with me!
