autumn leaves

It’s been a while since I’ve written a currently post…

Anyway, autumn is almost over, and what a busy autumn it has been! And I mean just busy; not nice, or fun, or anything like that. Just busy. And I could do with a little less busy. You know: less busy, more life, while I still remember what that is…

Anyway, that’s what it’s like being a freelancer: either you have hardly any work, or you have so much work you don’t have time to sleep, eat or see your friends. But enough of that.

However, if there’s a theme to this autumn it is not working too much (that I can handle; every autumn is like that). It would be that I really, really hate technology.

OK, so we all probably have days when we just want something a little simpler. Like a TV you can switch on by pressing just one button. But it’s not really my TV that’s driving me crazy.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Right… So, back in early September (a lifetime ago, or that’s what it feels like) I had some sort of a problem with Blogger (which I can’t even remember now. Hmm…). Anyway, the blog was offline for a few days, and there was no one to help me. It’s not like Blogger has a help-line…

So, I got so fed up with the whole thing that I decided to have the blog migrated to WordPress. I’d been thinking about it for a while, so this was just the push I needed. Besides, WordPress can’t be that different from Blogger, right? Right???

Oh, and did I mention the computer problems already?

OK, here’s what happened. You know those Windows updates? I’m sure you do: all the new crap programs suddenly taking up storage space, yet you can’t find any of the programs you actually use… So, after one of these ‘upgrades’ (a ‘downgrade’ would be a better term, if you ask me) Photoshop Elements stopped working.

DID YOU JUST HEAR ME SCREAM? Photoshop stopped working! That’s a disaster! (yes, first world problems, who gives a shit: I NEED MY PHOTOSHOP!!!)

OK, so it was Photoshop Elements 10 (which, by software standards, is probably pre-historic). And I could always get a more recent version. Which is what I did. Or, rather, I got the trial version of Photoshop Elements 2018. And of course they’d changed EVERYTHING!!!

Why, oh, why do they do that??? I mean the software people. Why do they have to keep messing things up?!? I was perfectly happy with the old version. And now I have to put up with all the ‘improvements’ that make no sense to me.

I feel like I’m turning into a luddite… Or whatever the Internet-age version of a luddite is…

OK, so I was getting more (or less) used to the new (but not better) version of Photoshop when I started thinking that before I actually purchase the new version of Photoshop, I should probably get the new laptop I’ve been meaning to get for a while.

So I did. I got a new laptop: MacBook Air.

Of course, I’ve only ever used Windows before… You see where this is going, right?

So, long story short: I’ve migrated the blog to WordPress (lots of new features to learn), got a new computer (where everything is ‘in the wrong place’), and got the latest version (yep, 2019) of Photoshop Elements. That should keep my stress levels up for a while…

Right, a blog migration, a blog makeover, a new laptop and a new version of Photoshop later, things are running smoothly. Well not really, but I’m starting to get the hang of it. Sort of. Almost.

Except that Bloglovin still fails to update new posts. Or, if it does, it takes at least two days… Not acceptable. Cue several increasingly angry emails to the so-called Bloglovin ‘support’ (and exactly zero responses)…  So, on Friday I just had enough: I’ve now removed the Bloglovin icons from both of my blogs. I don’t want people following on Bloglovin and then never get any updates…

Does it seem I’m giving up too easily on Bloglovin? Perhaps, but these sort of problems tend to really frustrate me. As in, lots of swear words, angry messages, shouting and screaming kind of frustrated… Frankly, I don’t have time for that shit. I have a moody MacBook Air to tame, and I have to figure out what the hell they’ve done to Photoshop…

And could I please get a TV that doesn’t need two remote controls to switch on?!?

How’s your autumn been?

    I feel your frustration Tiina!

I just had a similar issue when I upgraded to the latest Mojave on my Macs. Photoshop stopped working. Nightmare! Anyhow, I figured a work around but I know it’s not going to last forever and I’m dead set against paying a monthly fee for Photoshop when I have the whole Adobe suite from a few years back that I purchased outright for big bucks.

I hated my Macs at first and there are still some things I don’t care for but I really dislike my bilingual PC downstairs that I was forced to buy for my accounting software. All of these programs and platforms should be streamlined.

Bloglovin didn’t update my blog for over a year I think and then suddenly someone told me it started updating again. I didn’t even know because I can’t be bothered with stats for my blog. I’m concentrating on my Etsy store where I can actually make some money and feel like I’m valued for my efforts.

BTW…this blog post came up in my Bloglovin feed.

    Keep plugging along.

That sounds terrible! I totally understand. It’s quite an investment, buying the whole suite, and of course you want to make the most of it.
Technology… sometimes I wonder if it only exists to make our lives more complicated (as if we need that…)

Just to say I got your post on Bloglovin with no problem at all but I feel your pain about updates!

      Thanks, Catherine.
This post was updated on Bloglovin with no problem, it seems. The previous one took two days…
