How do you cool off on a hot day?
Well, as far as I can see, you have two choices: sleep in your fridge or spend the day by the sea…
As much as I was tempted by the idea of camping inside the fridge, a trip to the seaside seemed like the more practical option, and a natural outcome of our voluntary exile in a downtown hotel a couple of weeks ago.
So, Professor M and I got on a shuttle boat to a small island a few hundred metres (yes, really) off the coast to enjoy the gentle breeze, and a nice dinner…
Looking at these pictures now I realise that I forgot to take off the plaster (band-aid for my American readers) on my right foot. Of course, I could have just photoshopped it into oblivion, but I forgot that, too. That’s what hot weather does to me: it melts my brain…
Oh, you want to know what the plaster is for? Well, the day before these photos were taken I was wearing sandals. I love sandals. Unfortunately, my sandals don’t love me back.
What was that? Get a more feet-friendly pair of sandals? Been there, done that: I have 3 pairs of sandals, and none of them like me. Now you know why I always wear ballerina flats in summer…
Right, let’s talk about the restaurant. There is sailing club on the island (of course), so the nautical theme is reflected in the restaurant decor.
And the food, then? Excellent. Modern Nordic cuisine (= lots of fish, new potatoes and seasonal berries). Sorry, no photos as I’d be too embarrassed to take photos of my food…

Sounds like a lovely place and your outfit is darling! Never mind the bandaid. It had a story. Ha. I love ballarena flats for all seasons. I love the heat and hot places, but to cool down, its got to be near water somewhere with a cool breeze. Lisa
Thanks, Lisa. I'm not a fan of hot weather, it makes me feel quite uncomfortable, and I'm prone to heat exhaustion. So, a hot summer is quite a challenge. I think I like hot weather just as little as I like very cold weather. Unfortunately, I have to cope with both..,
That looks wonderful and so much better than standing in the fridge! Love your outfit Tiina. Hope you are still enjoying the breeze xx Maria
Thanks! It has got a bot cooler now, and nobody is happier about that than me.
so fabulous that you could go out and have some sea breeze and feel that marvellous coolness! You look lovely in your black&white outfit, really comfortable. Sorry that you didn't found a pair of comfy sandals, sometimes it's hard to find them. I have had to buy sport sandals, because most of my 'comfy' sandals are only for a short walk!besos
Thanks. Yes, the sea is never too far away in Helsinki. Even though I live in the suburbs, it takes me only about 30 minutes to get to the sea.Yes, sandals… I've bought so many sandals in my lifetime, and none of them seem to be any good. So, ballerina flats it is, then.
Fabulous, and you look superbly cool. Thanks for sharing on #chicandstylish Jacqui Mummabstylish
