Casual Friday

weekend style over 40

What should I wear to a Friday night after work dinner…

I’m a very pragmatic person and a big fan of dressing for both the weather and the occasion. So, a day with intermittent sunshine and heavy showers calls for sunglasses and a light-weight, rainproof coat or a jacket. And if I’m supposed to get on a boat, I need appropriate shoes.

Harakan laituri

restaurant in an 18th century fort located on a small island sounds like a rather casual affair, and as the island also has a yacht club and a marina, I’m hoping this outfit will help me blend in…

OK, it was just a five-minute boat trip…

Thanks, Jess. this was on one of our early autumn outings to check out some of the summer restaurants on small islands around Helsinki, before they all close for the winter, and the sun was setting over the sea…

So well said. I also dress for the occasion and the weather, and I love the nautical essence of your outfit. Beautiful necklace by the way, I've never seen anything like it and I hope your five minute boat trip was fun!

Thanks, Angela. Dressing for the weather can be tricky, too, especially here in the north… you need so many coats to accommodate the sometimes very unpredictable weather and the seasons.

The 'Hampton' style would be perfect for you.. you know, the all American, Ralph Lauren look. I am more of a comfort first kind of gal.. lately, too comfortable I must admit 😉 Have a great weekend, Tiina! And thank you for always making my day 🙂

Thanks, I love that Hamptons look, too. And comfort is so important, I want to get dressed and then forget about my clothes. Nothing fussy or contrived…

You have an unerring feel for the right pieces! Nautical and perfect. Such cute little shoes … for the first time in ages, I'm considering a little pair of oxfordish little kicks. Casual wear? No need to be dowdy … you show us how to do it well, here! Dressing for the weather? That would be an absolute yes. I do that!

Thanks, Jan. I still find dressing for the weather challenging at times, especially in winter… Right now I'm desperately looking for a rainproof winter(ish) coat that isn't black, grey or brown…
