Casual and Understated, with a Twist

Casual and understated, with a twist

That’s how I would describe my everyday style. I’m not a dramatic dresser, and I put comfort over everything else. I wouldn’t wear clothes that restrict my movements, or accessories that get in the way. I guess you could say I’m your typical ‘jeans and a t-shirt girl’, as I want my clothes uncomplicated and low-maintenance.

But that doesn’t mean clothes should be plain. On the contrary: the simpler the outfit, the more important the pattern or the colour becomes. If you’ve been following this blog, you know that I don’t really wear neutrals (they really wash me out) and I try to have some colour around my face. And I like luxury accessories that make a statement. Yes, I admit it: I spend a lot more money on sunglasses and bags than I do on clothes…

But I think it’s justified. You see, my sunglasses (or bags, for that matter) are not just a necessity (I have very sensitive eyes) but often the starting point and inspiration for the entire outfit. That is the case here, too. First I decided which sunglasses I wanted to wear, then I chose the sandals and the bag. And then I simply selected a few casual, understated basics to go with them. Well, maybe the t-shirt isn’t exactly understated, but I thought the outfit needed a bit of a twist.

I like this, Tiina. There are enough details to keep the eye interested but not overtly to the point that I do not know what to look at 🙂 and I never thought I'd like coral paired with olive green but I do!!! I used to create my outfits around shoes. These days, however, there isn't anything specific which dictates the overall look. It could be a top I've been dying to wear or a new clutch or an old fave hat xoxo

Thanks, Sheela. I'm a bit of a minimalist, and I can't stand outfits that are too busy. I often create my outfits around a bag. Or sunglasses, sometimes even a scarf. But it's always good to experiment a bit, mix and match and try new combinations, right?

Your ability to take casual up to the next level with your always well chosen accessories is definately your trademark. The corals are so pretty on you.

Tiina, the pinks look so great on you! I love the print on your top. It depends on my mood how I select an outfit. Sometimes I just am feeling like I want to wear a certain item, whether it's shoes, a scarf, a shirt, or a pair of pants. Then I just go from there. Sometimes I draw inspiration from a style challenge on Instagram. And sometimes I see an outfit during my morning blog reading that I love and I try to copy it. Thanks for linking up On the Edge of the Week! I hope to see you again next week. Have a wonderful weekend!Shelbeewww.shelbeeontheedge.com

Thanks. Yes, comfort is everything; it's hard to look elegant and chic if you're feeling uncomfortable.
