Bye Bye Summer!

So, summer is coming to an end…

Yes, my dear friend, September means autumn. I know, I know: some of you are reading this in places where September means hot weather, and autumn is still a distant thought.

Like all native Finnish speakers, I know precisely when summer starts and ends, never mind the tricks Mother Nature is trying to pull on us (e.g. sleet and hail in June or a heatwave in September). You see, the Finnish word for June (=kesäkuu) has the word summer (= kesä) in it. Similarly, the Finnish word for September (= syyskuu), contains the word autumn (= syys / syksy). So, Mother Nature, you can’t fool us: we always know what season it is…

What? Does the Finnish language also tell us when winter starts and ends? Well, yes and no. I guess we could say that December (= joulukuu , i.e Christmas month in Finnish) is already winter for sure. As for when spring starts, well, that’s for Mother Nature to decide…

Anyway, I thought I’d like to share a few photos with you. Just to reminisce about some of the highlights of the summer. Or to show you what makes summer so special in my opinion. Given that I’m not a fan of hot weather, this is nostalgia speaking. You know, it will be forever till next summer…

So, let’s get all nostalgic for the spectacular, long-lasting late summer sunsets. I can’t believe sunset is well before 9 pm already! Yes, my dear friend, the days are getting shorter… At least the blue hour is still warm and mellow.

And the sea!

I love the sea. No, I can’t swim and I don’t sail. I just love being by the sea. And a dinner cruise in the local archipelago is the perfect way to stay cool on a hot day.

I never realised how many sauna boats (= a sauna boat is a boat that has a sauna. Or a sauna that floats) there are until a few weeks ago.  Then I started photographing them:

But let’s talk about style…

I started the summer by deciding to buy less but buy better, and wear more of what I already have. And because I mostly wear basics, I decided to start collecting statement pieces to give my wardrobe a glam makeover.

Enter the silk kimono… I absolutely love it, but I also find it  a bit of a challenge as I don’t know what to wear it with. Other than the basics, that is.

And I discovered easy-peasy one-stop dressing for those uncomfortably hot days. While heatwave-proofing my wardrobe was necessary, I discovered that the dress also works on those warm days with occasional showers…

 And in other news…

I’m doing some autumn cleaning (because who has time for spring cleaning?!?) on my social media channels. Well, on Instagram only, to be honest…

Anyway… I’ve said before that I really love Instagram, so you’re probably not surprised that I now have no less than 3 separate Instagram feeds. Yes, that’s how much I really, really love Instagram.

I particularly love posting totally random pictures of whatever happens to catch my eye. However, as I also post (far fewer) outfit pictures, my Instagram feed was getting a bit messy and confusing. I also noticed that I tend to gain and/or lose followers depending on the type of content I post.

So, I decided to reserve @elegance_revisited for style and outfit pics, and started another feed for the random pictures of whatever catches my eye@moments_revisited. I call it my photo journal: a place to record all the interesting little details I come across in everyday life. So, this is where you’ll see pictures of amazing architecture, beautiful landscape and spectacular sunsets, the changing seasons and glimpses of my travels.

And the 3rd Instagram feed, then? Well, I still post my so-called ‘artwork’ on Instagram, too: @dilettante.artist.

How many Instagram feeds are too many?

Me too! But I don't miss the heatwave. Just, you know, normal nice and warm (but not too hot) summer.

You're welcome. I love taking photos of my surroundings, or all sorts of little details that catch my eye. But I really felt that I needed another Insta feed for that. Consistency etc… Have a great weekend, Maria!

Sunsets are magical and regardless of season they will always be beautiful! I only have one Instagram feed and I can barely keep up! Kudos to maintaining three! Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com

I take a lot of photos on my iPhone (about all sorts of little details of this and that), and I want to showcase 'the best' of them properly. Well, in a way a wanted to create a gallery of landscape/architecture etc photos, like the ones I follow: I'm far less enthusiastic about fashion and style on Instagram (that's what blogs are for, in my opinion). So, it was inevitable, really.

Tiina , I did so enjoy your Summer photos. The skies are so beautiful , I had never came across sauna boats before so thanks for introducing them. I am a fan of buying less but better and enjoying these items for years to come. I do like your idea of separating your topics on IG .

well, I like to see pictures of whatever catches your eye and some art, not only outfits, so I'll follow everything!. I would like to be that consistent in my Instagram account, which looks more like a hotchpotch! Those sauna boats look so picturesque, such an amazing thing! I love your new kimono and think that it's a cool transitional piece. And your maxi dress is a beauty and looks fabulous with the striped umbrella!besos

      Muchas gracias!
For me Instagram is first and foremost for those ‘random, whatever catches my eye’ pictures. And my so-called art. But as the Instagram account is linked to this blog, I thought it should probably reflect the content of the blog a bit more, too. So, in order to be a bit more consistent and not confuse my followers, I thought it best to separate my interests. I know a lot of people like following style bloggers on Instagram (I mostly follow something other than style or fashion there), and then there’s a somewhat different audience for landscape and architecture pictures.

I didn’t know there were such things as sauna boats! I couldn’t cope with three Instagram accounts – one is enough for me! Thanks for linking up!

Oh yes, saunas come in all shapes and sizes. at least in Finland…
I just love Instagram. I started by posting anything I found interesting. But I also felt I should be posting about style as the account is linked to this blog. However, posting style and fashion related content is a bit of an afterthought for me. I’m really more interested in landscape, architecture, little details of all sorts. I also mostly follow non-fashion related Instagram accounts. I’d rather read blogs to get my style and fashion fix.
