Blue and White, and Stripes of course

casual style over 50

What does a style blogger wear on holiday?

The quick answer: anything that is comfortable and requires zero styling. In this case that translates into a casual linen outfit consisting of a pair of navy trousers and a striped top, both of which I’ve had forever.

Navy and white is the colour combo I reach for when I don’t want to think about what to wear or lack the energy or motivation to put together an outfit.

I have so many clothes in either navy or with navy and white stripes that I can just pull out a random selection of clothes and mix and match them seamlessly. That’s what I call effortless styling.

It’s also probably lazy styling, but we all need the easy option every now and then. For example when we’re on holiday and want to give the old brain a chance to rest.

Yes, I know it’s important to challenge your creativity every now and then, and be open to new ideas and experiment a bit. But not today.

Sometimes it’s more important to just go with the flow and enjoy the sun on your back and the wind in your hair.

Yes,it is: so many outfits with fewer items. That’s also handy if you don’t have much storage space for clothes…

This is what I am aspiring towards, most of my clothes co-ordinating with each other seamlessly. I am semi-intentionally developing a situation like this with rust and olive and loving it. Your hair is looking good, are you still using the curly girl method? This is the first summer I have only let my hair air dry and so far so good. I changed to a sulphate free shampoo and am using a really thick conditioning mask each time I shampoo, which is only 2 times per week. I am finally embracing my curls (which I only have in summer btw, due to the humidity at sea-level).

Rust and olive, that sounds like a great colour combo.
Yes, I’ve been doing the curly girl method (more or less; I still wash with a sulphate shampoo about once a month, otherwise I use sulphate-free shampoo). I wash my hair every other day, so it’s still quite often. And I use all sorts of conditioners and masks (nothing new there: my hair was always very demanding). Most importantly, I’ve stopped blowdrying my hair straight (which never worked anyway). I let it air dry, or if I’m in a hurry, I use the diffuser. The results vary as my hair is a bit moody; sometimes it’s very curly and messy, sometimes it’s wavy, and some days I look like a scarecrow never mind what I do. I guess this was just a good hair day…

Thanks! This is a bit of an ‘accidental outfit’: not really planned or styled (we hadn’t even planned to have a photo shoot), it’s what I wear on long walks (on a suburban nature trail) when I don’t want to ‘dress up’. I wasn’t even wearing any jewellery or make up (except lipstick of course), and the hot weather was making my hair frizzy. But then we came across these little ponds, and I thought they’d make a great backdrop for photos.

Thank you! I also have a pair of shoes in the same pattern, just a smaller print.

This is a great outfit, Tiina! And perfect for holiday styling. I love how the shirt pocket has contrasting stripes! When I am on holiday, I usually always pack a black and white wardrobe. It is super easy to style while traveling and I am a chronic over packer trying to get better! Thanks for sharing your cute outfit and linking up with me.

Thank you! Yes, a neutral colour combo makes packing definitely easier, I agree. For me, it’s usually navy and white (black and white is a bit harsh on my skin), it’s so easy to accessorise.
