Back to Basics

Back to normal…

It’s August, and that means back to normal: back to my daily routine, back to work, back to cooler weather. I particularly welcome the last one. It’s wonderful to go outdoors without feeling that my face is melting. Or being able to sleep at night again now that the flat doesn’t feel like a sauna anymore.

But August also means darker evenings (sunset is around 9.30 already) and the (gradual) end of summer.

I know: everyone is always raving about the white nights of early summer, but I really like these darker late summer evenings, too. There’s something special about those long, lingering August sunsets. It’s as if Mother Nature is telling us to savour this last bit of summer splendour because soon it will be gone. Until next year, that is.

Back to routines! While I loved every bit of our summer break, I am definitely glad we are back to regular routines! I am looking forward to some cooling of the weather but it probably will be another month here before that happens!

Yes, back to ‘normal’, that’s nice, too. Looking forward to the next holiday…

I do love your striped t-shirts and fabulous accessorizing, your scarf and bag are so cool!. Love your comfy and elegant style! and the lovely backdrop in the sunset light!
The end of the summer looks really distant from here, as it can be hot until september’s wine harvest festivals. At least we enjoy some respite from heatwaves. I miss to wear a jacket!

      Thanks, Monica!
Fortunately, we still have a few weeks till it’s autumn, no need for jacket yet (although it was damn cold and windy on that island when we took these photos). But at least the temperature is down to +20. Incidentally, for the past few years we’ve been having more and more Southern European tourists here in late summer, enjoying cooler weather, I guess.

I’m really looking forward to the end of Summer especially after our heatwaves in June and July, (Côte d’Azur). I have found some great Autumn clothes recently and can’t wait to wear them. Do I see an umbrella in your bag? So looking forward to a shower of rain.

Oh yes, nothing like a heatwave to make you miss autumn… I haven’t even started looking at autumn clothes yet (still warm enough, don’t feel like trying things on).
That’s not an umbrella in my bag but a sun umbrella (I hate sun screen). But I’ve also used it as an umbrella a couple of times, when I was caught in the rain.

Well, autumn can be nice: the weather isn’t too bad, the autumn colours and the crisp air… OK, it’s my favourite season, and usually quite nice here, so it’s easy for me to say that.
