Autumn Colours

smart casual transitional dressing

Can you believe it’s late September already! It’s getting colder every day, and the days are getting shorter. And now that we’ve passed the autumn equinox, we’re losing daylight at lightning speed. Or so it seems, at least.
So, it’s time to put away summer clothes wrap ourselves in something warmer. Such as a rain-proof jacket, for instance.

Well, We still have an occasional sunny day every now and then. Like the day when these photos we taken.

Anyway… Now that I’m starting to go through my wardrobe (again), I realised I didn’t wear these polka dot trousers at all last summer. So, naturally, I had to try them on. You know, to see if they still fit, and if I’d want to keep them for next summer. And this is how this summer-to-autumn outfit came about.

And in case you’re wondering: yes, I’m going to keep the trousers. I’ve had them forever, and I must have been really bored with them (because I didn’t wear them at all in summer), but they fit me like a dream. And they’re high-waisted.

I would be an idiot to get rid of something like that, given how incredibly difficult it is to find trousers that flatter my body.

I love these quirky pants so glad to hear you keeping them. I fall in and out of love with clothes too from one summer to the next and then back in love again so I have learned to not get rid of things for such a reason.

      Thanks, Lise.
I know what you mean: at times I’ve regretted getting rid of something just because there was a moment when I was ‘tired of it’. Now I make it a rule never to get rid of something that fits me perfectly (because that is always so difficult to find) but simply store it out of sight. The only problem is that in my current flat I have very little storage, and therefore the place getting cluttered is a real problem.

Lovely outfit you have for this transitional weather we have. And it is so fun to find favourites again from own wardrobe, isn’t it?
As for wardrobe declutter, I’ve tried to do it frequently. Like every time season changes. Declutter in my case means, that I’ll take the most worn out pieces away and arrange the shelves so that the most in season clothes are readily available. If there is a shortage of seasonal clothes, I’ll make a shopping list for replacements. As I’ve decluttered frequently and sometimes with rough hand and have been picky about being new clothes, there is not so much need for decluttering these days though. -q

Thanks! Yes, it’s always nice to fall in love again with some old favourites, especially long after you’ve forgot all about them.
I’m pretty good at decluttering, too, and I have no trouble getting rid of things. And I’m really picky when it comes to getting something new. Yet, it seems that never mind how much I declutter, there’s always too much stuff. It’s almost as if the stuff just somehow multiplies, on its own… I think it all comes down to living in a rather small flat, so there’s not much storage space. So, everything must be stored in the same closets, year round… Fortunately, I will have a bit more space in the new flat, that should fix the problem.

I have a couple items like that in my closet that I wonder why I haven’t worn them because when I put them on, I realize, oh yes, I still like this! Fun that they are polka dot!

I sometimes get tired of my clothes because I wear them so often. But it’s probably a good idea to let them ‘rest’ at the back of the closet for a while (or a year or two) rather than just get rid of them. It’s always nice to rediscover these hidden gems, isn’t it?

Why get rid of something that fits perfectly? Sometimes we all get tired of certain items of clothing but like you said, it’s best to hold onto something for awhile and see if your interest in it comes back. I need to declutter my wardrobe right about now. I usually go through clothing seasonally because I have to store off season clothing in storage containers due to having a small closet. So at that time, I go through what I didn’t wear that season. What I have right now is a mess of shoes that I need to go through because like I said, small closet. I can’t see what’s in there when shoes are on top of each other. Love those pants and the whole outfit. We are still having warm days here so I haven’t switched over to Fall clothes yet. Hope you find ways to keep everything you want in your new apartment. Arlene from NJ

I agree: it’s better to hold onto something that fits well. Especially since well-fitting clothing is so hard to find…
I can relate to your ‘small closet problem’: I also have to store off season clothing storage boxes under the bed. And don’t get me started on shoes….

Super cute polka dot pants! I don’t blame you for not getting rid of them! Maybe they just needed a little break, too. Fall is definitely here in northern New York along with a whole lots of rain! Thanks for linking up.

Yes, a little break, that’s exactly what they needed. I think all of my clothes would benefit from a little break every now and then: after that they feel brand new again.

These pants are so cool. I know you have them for a while, but I always enjoy seeing them. There seems to be everything right. Perfect color, fit and print and so you.

They are fun pants, I’m glad you’re keeping them! I really like the bright scarf adding some colour with the neutrals, it pops with the brown of the pants! 🙂

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup! Hope that you had a wonderful weekend 🙂
