I love accessories
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’re used to seeing me wear sunglasses year round. But my love of accessories goes deeper than that. After all, I match (or sometimes contrast) my gloves to my coat. And I have probably more scarves than t-shirts. And I certainly seem to form an emotional attachment to my bags.
Yet, this post is not about any of the above. Instead, I decided to name the umbrella The Accessory of The Month.
No, I don’t particularly like umbrellas. And no, I don’t collect them either. Not the same way I would collect, say, scarves or bags, anyway. I have quite a few, though, but doesn’t everyone? I mean, doesn’t every woman carry an umbrella in her bag? I certainly keep one in (almost) every one of my bags. And yes, the umbrella matches the bag…
Anyway, the humble umbrella is The Accessory of The Month simply because it’s November now, and bad weather is the new normal. In other words, The Accessory of The Month is shorthand for don’t leave home without it.
So, in order to celebrate this well-deserved honour bestowed on this often overlooked and underappreciated accessory, this is me, doing a little dancing in the rain routine. Well, to be honest, I’m not sure if we could call that rain exactly. Let’s just say it was something wet: not rain really but not quite snow either… Yes, I know there’s a word for it. But to say it out loud sort of makes winter seem a bit more real, and I’m not quite ready for that yet….

How you manage to make jeans, boots, a puffy coat (puffy by my standards anyway) and an unbrella look chic and sophisticated, i will never know! It must be the attitude? I bow to the Master and hope to learn the secret by continuing to absorb your know-how. I know I see myself in your approach to fashion, or style. I too do NOT like layering, I prefer dressing in a casual, practical, comfortable manner. Living in Southern California creates a unique “dilemma” for me, as the climate limits my use of jackets and coats for “dressing up” outfits. Even scarves can be too warm for a lot of the year! And as a new 60- something, I would LOVE the camoflage afforded from sweaters, jackets and such! Oh well, I will keep at it and if nothing else, it is always a pleasure to read your blog and see your wonderful outfits. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for your kind words.Casual, practical and comfortable, that sounds perfect. Clothes should feel good on the skin, and never restrict natural movement. I think we can't look good if we feel uncomfortable.
such lovely pics!, your outfit looks fresh and modern and cool!, dancing in the rain and smiling could be the best accessories ever (even better than those cute umbrellas! and I'm a huge fan of your matching umbrellas!)I'm not one of those every woman who carries an umbrella in her bag, as my umbrellas are bigger than a brollie. But I've realized that I own many umbrellas and like to match them with my coat!.besos
Thanks!I started carrying an umbrella in my (work) bag when I got tired of either getting drenched or having to do some emergency shopping whenever it rained. I would prefer a bigger umbrella, too, but for practical reasons most of my umbrellas are folded (i.e. they fit into the bag). I also used to lose those big umbrellas so easily, I just left them somewhere…
I just would like to kmow how all my umbrellas always end up in one place together, and never where I need one! Love your umbrellas and I say your smile is your best accessory!
Tell me about it… That's the reason I started carrying a small folded umbrella in my work bag.
Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. Another incredible umbrella that fits perfect to your outfit! Great collection.
Thanks, Nicole.
That's a pretty umbrella! I love 'em. My favorite is one from a NYC museum that has a sunny sky with clouds printed on the underside so that's what you see when you look up. 🙂
A sunny sky, that sounds perfect. A happy umbrella…
This is so cute! Fall is definitely the perfect season to carry around an umbrella. I love the way it looks with your outfit. How did you manage to find such a pretty umbrella?Thank you for linking up this week!~xo ShereePoshClassyMom.com
Thanks, Sheree. I have quite a few umbrellas. I used to get one whenever I was caught in the rain, so I sort of accumulated quite a collection little y little…
I don't remember to bring umbrellas with me most of the time, but I should really put a fun one in my car. One of my favorites was one that belonged to my grandma–it had cats and dogs on it, so it was raining cats and dogs! Thanks for joining the Thursday Moda Link up!Maryhttps://www.themarycurator.com/
That's great! An umbrella as a family heirloom, fantastic!
I keep umbrellas in my car, bag, by the front door, but the truth is I don't use them very often because it's usually too windy! I've broken so many with them blowing inside out that I often just wear a hat instead. Thanks for linking up!EMma xxxwww.style-splash.com
Oh yes, wind can destroy umbrellas 😉 I*m always looking for a coat with a hood for those windy days.
