Accessory Love: Umbrella

Sod the rain…

I have a long, busy day ahead, and I need some colour to cheer me up. Whoever decided that all rain wear should be grey or black or any other dark, dull colour should be punished. I mean, isn’t it bad enough that everything around is grey and soggy, do we also have to look as if we carry the weight of the world on our shoulders?

Actually, I started collecting colourful umbrellas for purely practical reasons. I thought if I had a nice umbrella, I would take better care of it.  As in, not lose it. Or forget to take it with me.

I used to carry those basic, black umbrellas in each of my bags, but I had to keep replacing them all the time. Why? I kept losing them. For example, there was this one time when I just popped into a shopping centre… It was pouring with rain, so obviously I didn’t put the wet umbrella into my bag. All I know is I didn’t have it with me anymore when I left the shopping centre 10 minutes later. Yes, that’s me, a scatterbrain…

More recently, I’ve started seeing umbrellas as accessories. Since I have quite a few, it’s rather easy to pick one to either match my outfit or provide some contrast, depending on my mood. In a way an umbrella is the rainy day equivalent to sunglasses: it completes the outfit and gives it a little personal touch.

Oh, don’t forget to check out my cartoon self portrait (with a pink umbrella!) at the Dilettante Artist’s Gallery

And you, an umbrella or a raincoat, which one do you prefer?

Pretty umbrella is synonymous with caring them, that's so true !! Love your outfit, dear friend. Certainly color is the best thing for gray days!

Thanks, Rosy. Yes, I certainly seem to take better care of nice umbrellas, and I do have favourites I use nore often.

You have a fun umbrella collection! I never think to use them as accessories. I love the first photo with the blue one! That's definitely your color!JillDoused In Pink

We have 1 umbrella… one. And it was a free gift from a golf club or something. That shows the amount of rain we get here. Your collection is fun and I adore the one with the city light! So fun! Wishing you a great time during Easter, Tiina!

Well, you probably have very little use for umbrellas in the sunny Dubai. I have quite a few umbrellas, both in Finland and in the U.K., most of them bought when I was suddenly caught in the rain. But I also have sun umbrellas…

I agree with you on rain wear – it's surprisingly difficult to find colorful stylish ones. I have a few umbrellas and will buy more if the designs and colors strike me. I also have a few raincoats, red, blue and green ones! You have a wonderful collection, and I know what you mean – it's always a pity when we loose or break our favorite brollies! xxx

This is just a sample of my umbrella collection…. The ones that I like the most. I still find myself in situations where I need to buy an umbrella, fast, because I fail to carry one with me. And this is how the collection keeps getting bigger…

I have a really colorful umbrella I purchased from Target and I have held onto it! The first one is my absolute favorite!

Thanks, Carrie! I have favourite umbrellas, too, and I use some more than others. And I still get new ones (but only because I often don't have one with me when it starts to rain).

I love your colorful collection of umbrellas! If it rained more here (and we need it so badly), I would buy more. I can see myself losing them like how I lose my sunglasses. Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!Alicewww.happinessatmidlife.com
