A Bit Blah, Or Just ‘Wrong’?

winter chic over 50

Do you ever have those days when nothing seems right? And whatever you wear just feels a bit blah, or not quite what you’re after? Or just ‘wrong‘?

Well, this is how I felt, wearing this outfit. I guess it looks OK, hubby even called it elegant… But I just wasn’t feeling it. Maybe it was the weather, I’m so tired of winter by now… Or that when we took these photos ( a couple of weeks ago) I was coming down with the flu. I don’t know. But immediately after we’d taken these pictures I went back in and changed. I just thought I should tell you. Because I think we all have days when everything just feels… wrong. For whatever reason.

Outfit details:

skirt: Gerry Weber (old) / cashmere jumper: Brora (old) /

sunglasses: Michael Kors / bag: Chanel / Boots: Diba (old)

Of course I know that feeling – which I think makes this post particularly valuable; looking at you, you look good. The skirt is interesting and a bit sexy. The jumper is lovely and suits you. Everything fits well, there are some nice little details. Conclusion: the feeling comes from within and does not reflect anything actually wrong in how you look. Therefore, when any one of your readers gets that feeling, they are almost definitely looking just fine too. Quite reassuring I think. I hope that on this day you successfully shrugged off that feeling with the new outfit.

Absolutely! I think we all have those days when we just don't feel good in any outfit. It will pass, of course, but still… Looks can be deceiving, and confidence really does come from within. And some days we just löck confidence.

Your husband was right. It is a very elegant and very good outfit. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, quite the contrary. I would wear this more if I were you. It must have been your flue. And yes I know the feeling of blah.Greetje

Yes, I must have been the flu… Or just being bored with winter. Or bored with all my clothes. Or…

What the …..are you talking about woman! Get your leather jacket out of the closet and give is that fierce look of you! The skirt is fabulous!

Thanks! I'm afraid it's still a bit too cold for my leather jacket (with minus degrees and snow…), and the leather jacket is in my UK home, anyway… But you're right: the fierce look is probably the cure I need.

Oh yes , know those days only too well lately. I think as seasons continue on you get fed up with the clothing you have and long for a change , probably doubly true with your long , dark Winters. In this case your husband is spot on , the outfit is really good on you. I hope your flu is better soon.

Thanks, Jill. Yes, the long, dark winter… I've always found late winter (February-March) quite exhausting. Even with the increasing daylight and sunny days. Can't wait for spring…

Totally have those days. I think it's just a funk with the weather or something. I don't find myself doing that as much in the sunny Summer months. I think the outfit looks great on you! http://www.mylittlenest.org

You know, Ruth, I think you're onto something… must be the weather. And summer, I totally agree: it's somehow easier to feel happy in your clothes.

Thanks, Mary. I think it was the zipper detail that first caught my eye, too, and made me get the skirt.

Thanks, Jacqui. Yeah, I guess we all have days when something's just off. But I thought it was important to post an outfit that I felt wasn't quite right. You know, keeping it real…
