What to wear when it's raining

rainwear over 50

Rain, Rain, and more rain...

It's raining. Again. Or still. Whatever. It has been raining forever. Well, for the past two weeks, anyway. That's a lot of rain. Too much rain, if you ask me.

And it seems the rain isn't going anywhere anytime soon, either. Better get used to it, I suppose.

But it's not just raining all the time; it's getting colder, too. That's why I'm wearing a thicker parka: no more trench coats until spring... Oh well, soon it will be winter, and I will take every excuse to avoid going out. Which is more difficult than it sounds as I work 5 days a week at the moment.

But for now I'm trying to stay warm and dry. That's what the parka is for: it's water-resistant and it has a hood. Very practical when you're in the middle of  the Great Flood.

And yes, I'm wearing wellies (that's rubber boots for my American readers). You know, because it's raining. And because there's nothing sexy about wet socks. In fact, the best way to avoid getting a cold is to keep both your neck and your feet warm and dry.

So, now you know why I always wear a scarf. And good shoes that keep my feet dry. However, when you suddenly find yourself in the middle of the Great Flood, a.k.a the rain that won't stop, you discover that most shoes are in fact not water-proof.

In other words, there is a time and place for wellies (a.k.a rubber boots)...

What do you wear when it's raining?

  1. Last week I got wet twice because I had to take the bycicle! Grrrr. But this weekend Summer temperature s are back again!yeah!

    1. Oh, lucky you! I think I will be going to work by boat if this rain doesn't stop soon...

  2. We've had a little rain this week. One day it was too warm to wear a mac so I used a brollie. Generally though I'm using a mac with a hood.

    1. A mac with a hood, I totally agree! Although I have both a mac with a hood and a brollie, and yet my hair is still a mess...

  3. Aw, your outfit is super cute. It looks so warm too, which is perfect were you live. It's just way too hot!

  4. I love your colorful umbrella! This is such a cute outfit to wear when it rains. I love the laces on your boots. I wish I could wear an outfit like this right now, but unfortunately it doesn't rain often in Los Angeles and it's pretty warm right now!
Thank you for linking up this week!

    1. Thanks, Sheree. I got the umbrella a couple of years ago at Marimekko outlet sale. It goes with anything, and is brilliant for a little pop of colour.

  5. Sorry, but I LOL'd at "the Great Flood." it can certainly feel that way after two weeks! Looking smart and stylish, and thanks for linking, xo

    1. Thanks, Patti. Yes, two weeks of rain is a bit too much...

  6. Perfect wet weather outfit , that umbrella is certainly the star. Wellies (they are called Gumboots here) are the only way to go in a downpour. As always stylish and practical Tiina.

    1. Thanks, Jill. I like umbrellas with either a vivid colour or a nice pattern. I used to lose my umbrellas (those boring black ones) all the time, but I seem to take better care of the more colourful ones.

  7. What to wear when it's raining?....My life!
    A great look.
Your brolly is fab, such an easy way to add colour to a dull day.

    1. Oh yes, the constant rain, especially this time of the year... And a colourful umbrella is just what you need to brighten a rainy day.

  8. well, you rock your rainy weather outfit!, comfy&cool style!, and I love your colorful umbrella, fab accessories make everything better!
We had some rain yesterday, after months of drought, and it was welcome!.
Finding a trusty pair of waterproof shoes is amazing!, my DMartens are my favorite rain shoes!
